I have had multiple Wyze cameras for years now. I have always had a 12 second clip with every notification. I had to upgrade my router and despite using the same network name and password it disconnected all my cameras. The app told me to erase the camera and reconnect it. When I did it tells me that I only get a photo notification unless I want to pay $2.50 per camera. I called tech support and spent an hour on the phone with a woman who told me that she didn’t know how to fix it. Now my 9 cameras are not working.
First of all, when redoing setup (normal to change WiFi), you should NOT delete the cameras first. As long as you do not delete them they will be recognized as an existing camera with all settings and capabilities preserved. This has been brought up more times than I can count here on the forum. Because you deleted the cameras first, these are considered NEW installations.
As to why you no loner get the 12 second free video, old camera installations had the grandfathered 12 second video for reasons I wont get into here unless requested, but the deadline to add new cameras and still get that old capability expired several years ago.
I set up the network with the same name and password as I stated. The cameras wouldn’t connect. The app TOLD me to delete and reconnect them after the fact. Nowhere did it say anything about being grandfathered in or that the process would change the functionality of my camera. This is deceptive and manipulative. How was I supposed to know this would happen if I was just following their instructions and they didn’t inform me if this. If there was a change and I never had the issue before, why would I know that?
Go to
Login and go to “Access My Wyze Cams”
Then go to “Plans & Billing”
See if your Cam Plus Lite service is still listed. If so you should be able to add any Lite compatible camera to your Lite service again.
If you see your Lite plan, DO NOT click the “Cancel Plan” button which is easy to do if you are not careful.
Recently I upgraded my routers to a different brand and the Wyze app never asked me to remove any cameras. All the cameras reconnected to the same WiFi network name and password without issues. Out of all my cameras, only one V3 in the worst WiFi coverage spot needed a reset (hold setup button). When I reset it and named it the same name as before, it kept my previous settings as far as I can tell.
The issue of losing Cam Plus Lite however, I did run into and could not recover from. I did have Cam Plus Unlimited, and did select Cam Plus trial for a couple of new V4s I bought. Not sure what changed but somewhere in the past year Cam Plus Lite was removed from my account. Now I don’t see Cam Plus Lite anymore using @StevenA’s method above.
I do 24/7 SD recording and the cameras still all detect motion and sound events, so whenever there’s an event I can still look back on the SD card. If you do want Person detection however you’re out of luck. I ended up setting up a Yolink motion sensor → IFTTT → Wyze plug → Wyze automation to trigger cloud recording etc., which works without any subscription. Hope this helps.
