First Wyze Cam Failure Ever!

After 4 straight years of brutal South-Central Texas abuse, I finally had my first Wyze Cam v3 failure today. We’re talking pouring rain, golf-ball hail, weeks of 105°F+ heat in direct sun, the whole deal—and it just kept working like a champ until literally this morning.

That’s an insane run. Most “weatherproof” cameras would’ve died in year one down here.

Still love Wyze! Just ordered a big batch of new ones… from Amazon this time though (sorry Wyze, needed them before my trip and Prime had me covered ).

Wyze, y’all make the toughest budget cams on the planet. Keep doing what you’re doing!

If you haven’t thrown it away yet, you might consider opening up the camera carefully and looking inside. I had a V3 camera die on me once because I accidentally dropped it, and I opened it up to look inside and found that the power wire was twisted up really strong, pulled tight and had jolted out of the circuit board. So all it took for me to fix it was to push that connector back into the circuit board and everything came back on just fine.

I’m not saying that. That is what is going on with yours but If it has had pounding hail on it for a while multiple times, it may have slightly jostled it from that. And I’m telling you that the cord was wound so tight that it was really springy pulling hard away from the circuit board. So with multiple jolts and enough time of the tension pulling, there’s a small possibility that maybe it just pulled the power cord loose from the circuit board and you could plug it back in and have it working again.

It’s also possible that it was something like the seal around the lens weakened over time and maybe some moisture got into it and caused it to stop working, and letting it dry out for a little bit might allow it to start working again.

At the very least, you can have fun dissecting it :joy:

Here is a Wyze Cam v3 TearDown video.

You might save the power cord and power brick if those are still working to use as spare parts for other Wyze cameras.
