Few Duo Cam Doorbell questions please

Hmnn, Unless I have completely misunderstood what you were telling me before regarding SD footage. I had thought the only way to view the footage would be to remove the SD card and connect on a pc “to view it on a desktop pc” which is what I want. Is this accurate?

I mean I can see the history on my phone but it is not accurate. For example, I saw someone walk by at 11.33. but when I check the SD on the phone the only recorded events in that screen is 11.27 and 11.38 so nothing showing in between those 2 times.

First, do you have motion recording set for on and is it all motion/events, continuous or just events? Second, when you open the sdcard on your phone, are you seeing unbroken continuous green recording bar? Motion on, all motion/events and continuous will capture eveything conceivable but will also use up the sdcard and overwrite more frequently. Unless you are using high and pro endurance cards, expect a shorter life span on the cards.

Yes, you can view any recorded events on the sdcard on your phone. You do not have to pull the card and load it on your pc. Smart events will have an icon and motion will have a symbol. I apologize if I misled you because of lack of clarity of your real objective which I assumed was to view the footage on your pc. I have on a few rare occurrences done so, but use Wyze app on my phone 99% of the time.

Hopefully, this clarifies things better for you.

Sorry for the late response, been tied up with things. Will try to disect and understand everything you’ve written tomorrow and get back to you then. Thanks.

The first screenshot is of my ‘motion’ settings, please tell me what you would recommend for it?

The second screenshot is for the SD Card. Sorry if I am confusing you. To clarify, it’s ‘on my desktop pc’ that I would like to rewind/search, not on my phone. But if no option without having to remove the SD card then connect it on my pc, I will have to settle for phone rewinding/searching.

So it’s on the phone I am referring to where the SD Card is not recoding all motion/events. I am using a quality 128GB SD Card and no issue with life span for this. So if any setting recommendations for this too, I would appreciate it, thanks.

These are the important screens:

Sorry, cannot view sdcard content on Wyze.com online as you would like, have to load card to pc.

Yeah as mentioned, I plan to get a CCTV setup for this purpose whenever I should be able to afford it.

Thank you very much again for this help too, I have adjusted my settings to match what you have shown me, tomorrow or so I will confirm if it now records the events more accurately. Have a great Sunday!

With the settings adjustment you have given it is now working. Just saw someone walk by then checked one minute later and saw it, that will work for phone rewinding, Deeply appreciate all the help!

Is it possible to get the same with my back cam v3 please? Or should I create a new thread specifically for v3 issues?

Not necessary to create a new thread. Provided you have an sdcard in the v3, you have and should be able to set the same settings on it. All Wyze cams have similar settings.

Hey how’s it going, hoping all is well?

I’m sorry to bother you again but the duo cam battery ran dead even though hard wired. Only option according to Support was for me to start from scratch again and Add new device so I had to try to redo all settings as was discussed here.

I am getting the doorbell press but this time I am also getting whenever a vehicle goes by a notification on my phone showing
‘complete motion detected’ .

How can I stop this notification please?

I don’t have Duo Cam Doorbell, but I’ve seen this happen with other Wyze camera and doorbell models, and I’d expect the remediation steps to be similar (at least I hope you have the same kinds of settings screens as something like Video Doorbell v2). Try this:

  1. Navigate to the doorbell’s  Settings ➜ Event Recording.
  2. Under RECORDING PREFERENCES, select All Events and then tap Customize Detections.
  3. On the Customize Detections screen, deselect Other Motion (and possibly Other Sounds) in the NOTIFY column, then tap back to the previous screen.
  4. Back on the Event Recording screen, select Smart Detection Events (and optionally tap to double-check your selections on the Customize Recordings screen).

That may be necessary sometimes because the “Other Motion” and “Other Sounds” lines aren’t available when a user has Smart Detection Events selected, so you have to temporarily select for All Events in order to navigate to and deselect that option. It’s annoying, and some of us in the Forum feel that it’s a bug and have expressed this to Wyze.

information Note that your selection on the Event Recording screen determines what destination is available:
  • If the Event Recording screen has Smart Detection Events selected, then tapping Customize Recordings takes the user to the Customize Recordings screen.
  • If the Event Recording screen has All Events selected, then tapping Customize Detections takes the user to the Customize Detections screen.

I imagine your detection/notification preferences were reset when you set up the doorbell as a new device again.

Yes, I think those instructions works. The garbage truck just went by and I did not get that prompt, thank you very much!

But I did get a ‘person detected’ when the sanitation worker walked past the house on the sidewalk. The only notifications I need is the doorbell when pressed [which works] and packages, how can I have only those 2 please?

I’m glad that worked to get rid of “Complete Motion Detected” notifications. :+1:

For that, I would just navigate into the doorbell’s  Settings ➜ Notifications ➜ Manage and select only what you want to receive in the NOTIFY column. Again, I’m making assumptions about Duo Cam Doorbell’s settings and expecting them to be similar to what I see with Video Doorbell v2 or other cameras.

Yeah, my fault, sorry I should have realized this, I have unchecked ‘Person’ now.

Man, always something with these doorbell video cams.. I almost never have any issues with my v3 cams over my garage. Now after resetting this doorbell, frequent problems with losing net connection seeing “device offline” when my pc’s phone and tv have no net connection issues..

I am thinking of simply trying a POE doorbell cam next so no battery charging issues and next connection issues. This will be a 5th doorbell I will need to buy sighhhhh.

I’m glad that got you sorted on the notifications.

As for the connectivity, I think Duo Cam Doorbell has had some firmware updates since its initial release that are supposed to address those issues, so I’d check to make sure you’re current with firmware. In my own home I’ve been able to improve connectivity to some IoT devices by adding a range extender, only it’s not wireless both ways (i.e., to the wireless devices and connecting back to the main gateway) the way I’m using it because I wanted one that I could connect via wired backhaul and use it as an accessory wireless access point. That has really improved things, but as I continue to add devices lately I’m thinking more and more that I should get a mesh system. :man_shrugging:

I had a mesh system here, two of them but still had some wireless hiccups every now and then. This is why I was interested in POE types but problem with that is they require having to get an NVR.

I use an NVR for some non-PoE wireless cameras but don’t have any experience setting up PoE and don’t know anything about doorbells that might operate using that kind of power and connectivity.

The one I am getting is still wifi due the NVR issue [expense] for me right now but with it, I can use their App to rewind on my desktop pc similar to using a VCR and it is AC powered.

But whenever I should be able to afford it in the future, I will try the POE as it seems simple, the Cat6 cable plugs into the doorbell itself which plugs into the NVR which then plugs into the router.
