The issue is tha in one of the android phones when you click the favorites tab the live feed is shown and then you see a old timestamp feed for a second, then goes black for a second and returns to the current live feed and keeps doing that over and over.
HERE IS THE VIDEO ISSUE
Tested on computer browser and doesn’t happen. Tested on another android phone doesn’t happen. Tested on an iPhone and doesn’t happen.
This started today but strangely earlier today it wasn’t happening it started to happened at night all of sudden.
Have tried everything : force close app, clear cache, uninstall and reinstall app, clear cache within wyze app, restarted the affected phone, unplugged the camera and still keeps doing it.
My Panv3s always did that on the favorites screen, and it would sometimes cause issues with other screens like cam groups and live view, I disabled the auto play of video on that screen as I prefer to just use my cam group (which doesn’t have the issue). My guess was just that trying to load lots of cameras at the same time was just overloading something. Why it just started for you and why it is only on one phone, can’t say. Note that the 3.x app recently re-added the “hardware decoding” setting (maybe a month or two ago) so maybe you just got that update? Try going into the settings for your Panv3 and turning that off. It used to cause issues for me on one of my phones.
But maybe consider turning off the auto play on the favorites screen and using a cam group instead, mine is right at the top of favorites so it is easy to open up, I prefer it anyway as when you turn the phone sideways you can have 4 cams each taking up 1/4 of the screen, more efficient and clean than the favorites view.
Wait what? I have the latest wyze cam (android) I do not see no “hardware decoding”. I did research that but I don’t see it. This my parents house and my mother’s phone. The other phones are in the same house an older android phone with no issue and the newest iPhone no issue
Where is this hardware deciding I don’t see on hers and even on my own house which also uses pan v3 I don’t see it.
Is the older android phone running the 2.5 app? If so, that one doesn’t have the playback on the favorites screen so wouldn’t have the issue. I’m not sure if it was ever an issue for iphones as I don’t have one. I do know it was an issue with my Panv3s ever since the 3.x app came out, granted my phone is about 4 years old now running Android 14, which may or may not be related. I’ve had the autoplay disabled for quite some time now so not sure if it was ever resolved and may have come back recently, etc.
Hardware decoder
Go into the camera live view
tap the gear icon
tap advanced settings
toggle hardware decoding off
This feature was added back in after I stopped using the autoplay so no idea if it is related or not, but in the old app the hardware decoder would cause issues for me from time to time, including freezing videos etc.
Playback on the favorites screen
On the main app/favorites screen tap “account”
tap app settings
toggle “autoplay video live streams” under “home page” to off. You can still play them there by tapping the play button on a cam, they just won’t all autoplay at once.
The hardware decoder has been removed again. There is no option for that regardless. Do you have it it post a photo. I don’t have it in my android phone also with android 14, my mom doesn’t have it also Android 14. And the iPhone doesn’t have it. According to Google it was removed again.
Still there on my Panv3, which is what you tagged this post as, so I’m assuming that’s the cam you have?
Checked for updates and I’m running the latest app version. Note this location is only for the 3.5 app. On 2.5 it is located under the app settings screen, not the individual camera settings.
Well now that this is available again on my mom’s phone this helps no longer you see the above issue in my video.
The weird thing is my dad android phone is also a Google pixel 3 and older, and doesn’t have this issue and has it on. Mine is the Google pixel 9 and is also on and doesn’t happen so weird but this means for sure is a wyze app issue
No, hardware decoder is the phone hardware itself. More powerful phones will benefit from the hardware decoder, where less powerful ones will benefit from the software decoder.
My Pixel 4a 5g (4 years old) works fine with the hardware decoder for the most part, I have not tried to see if resolves the home screen issue or not since I don’t use live video there. But my old 2017 samsung phone does not work well with the hardware decoder, it has to be off.
@dave27 Also I think one time I saw a response from you. One issue I do have on my camera is also a pan v3. I don’t know if here we can DM a user, but I also have an issue like this one which the camera when you click the SD card not available videos and I have restarted the camera, I have re set it up, I have changed the SD card, I have put the camera next to the router and still does this. It never changes to the SD card video and freezes and have to force stop the app
There are some known issues with the Panv3 and SD cards, but it has been really difficult figuring out if there is some common denominator or if they’re unrelated issues.
The only one I experienced was when you tried to play an SD card video by tapping an event or notification, it would initially give an error, but if you waited, it would play fine. But playing from the SD card screen worked fine. That ended up getting resolved and seemed to be an issue with a few versions the v3.x app only. Other than that I’ve never had any of my Panv3s give any issues with the SD card.
If yours is not recognizing the card at all in settings, and giving playback issues even when right near the router, I’d suspect the SD card slot has gone bad. Though again, people have had similar issues with various v3s and it seems unlikely that all of the slots have gone bad (though I guess possible). Has your cam ever been mounted upside down outside? The Panv3 is prone to water getting in when upside down, and the SD card slot/functionality is definitely something that could be affected by that.
Unfortunately if it is just the one cam, probably the only solution is going to be to replace it (if it is within a year they’ll cover it under warranty).
Yes I mounted all upside-down and had to use the 180 degree toggle. They are cover a bit by part of the roof. But is only that one, the other one is fine and is cover by the same small roof. Depends how it rains and the angle of the rain.
I can’t upload the video here not even a 8 sec video
@dave27 but essentially the issue is this new SD card, when I click SD card in the app I don’t see the green bar of the recording which will always display no video available. If I restart the cam then I see the green bar but going back a couple hours or minutes it will never play the video and freezes and after that it disappears the green bar until I restart it again. Events playing are good and live video is good.
The camera is past the 1 year. I even tried formatting to Fat32 (Large fat32) according to wyze is more compatible that exfat for 32GB+ cards but still don’t worked. So yeah night be the slot who knows
Mine all have exFAT 128G cards in them no issues. I did have a Panv3 pretty much completely die, it was upside down under an eave and the rain and wind one day got inside. I was able to bring it back to life by leaving it in a bag of rice for a couple of days, but YMMV on that.
There are methods to attempt to clean the SD card slot too in case it just got some dirt inside it or something but they are hit or miss. Your symptoms sound like intermittent/incomplete reading or contact of the card, probably something to do with the slot or controller.
Basically you take a SD card you don’t care much about, take some isopropyl or electrical contact cleaner (CRC and WD40 Specialist both make good ones, Deoxit is good too but harder to find) and put a few drops or quick squirt in the slot and on the contacts of the SD card. Put it in and out like 10 times, wipe off the contacts, add another drop or two. Repeat that a few times followed by a final rinse squirt/few drops. Ideally hit the slot with a bit of compressed air then let it dry thoroughly.
The SD card you used will probably be fine but I use an old junk one just in case. I’ve had 50/50 success rate with various SD card slots over the years.
Technically copy or printer paper works great for cleaning electrical contacts as it is slightly abrasive, but the contacts inside an sd card slot are pretty delicate and spring loaded, so I wouldn’t want to do that, but I guess as a last resort a piece folded up and with good sharp, clean edges might work. Use it dry though so you don’t lose bits inside.
