Failed to download video from V3 SD card recording

Tried to save videos to phone from V3 SD card recording. The thumbnail show up in gallery immediately but video took many hours before showing up.

Any idea?

What type and model of phone? Samsung something perhaps? Is your gallery program running when the video is saved? are you using the manual “record” button or where are you saving videos from?

I am using Oneplus 12. View Playback → move time bar → Record, Just launched google photo, gallery in the background. Same. Snapshot show up immediately but no video. I have Samsung s23 ultra and many other phones. No difference. Only noticed this issue recently. I am using latest Wyze 3.0 app.

I found out the reason. I have many old fire HD 10 tablets which have 2.50 app. 3.0 app failed to launch in those tablets.

Just tried recording video from sd card recording of a V3 using a fire tablet , video clip show up immediately but not the snapshot.

Did recording from sd card work for you with latest 3.0 app?

There have been complaints that if your gallery app is open when the video is saved, it won’t show up until you close the gallery app and re-open it . Try doing that (whatever app is on the fire tablet, not sure what it is called). Seems to be an issue with the 3.0 app and samsung phones but I’m sure it can affect other OS’es also.

You can even try rebooting the tablet and see if the videos show up then.

Bug that was introduced in Wyze Android beta app v3.1.0.b560 carried forward into couple official stable release. See below for more info.

Mine is doing it now too on the Pixel photos app, before I’d see both the video and the image, now only the image shows.

It only happens with my Pan v3. OGs work fine (no still frame, and video shows right up).

The issue is the Panv3 saves both files with the exact same name in the same folder, one as .mp4 and one as .png. As soon as you rename the .mp4 or the .png to something else, both show up in the photos app. So if they get rid of the spurious still frame, it will resolve the problem.

Both files are saved into DCIM → wyze → Cam v3 → manual for the Panv3
The OG saves a .mp4 only directly into the DCIM root folder

I’m guessing all the cams using the v3 style interface probably work in a similar fashion and have the same bug.

You can access the video file in the wyze app album, or by using your phone’s file explorer app.

Thanks. I can upload the video clips in album to google photos for now before the bug is fixed. Or I can downgrade app in one of my spare phones.

The only workaround I can find (other than using file explorer or the Wyze app album to view the video) is to rename the video (mp4 file) in the file explorer (add a 1 to the beginning or whatever) , then both will show up in the photos app and you can delete the still frame if you want.

Deleting the still frame or moving it to another folder in the photos app doesn’t fix it, seems the phone’s file system is still confused. Maybe deleting then force quitting or rebooting would do it but that’s more of a pain.

Thanks! Are Wyze dev team fixing this apparently simple bug?

Depends if anyone has reported it to them, while they are in these forums from time to time it really has to be submitted via support to get attention.

Thanks! Probably @WyzeJasonJ should report this bug to dev team if not yet since looks like it is a well known bug. Meanwhile I just upload video clip from album to google photos.

Didn’t even realize that was an option, but I’m guessing because I haven’t linked my google account to wyze and don’t typically use the album feature within the wyze app anyway. I wonder if that is only available if you use the “login with google” function or something.

Just click the share button at the bottom of the clip, then choose upload to google photos which will process the clip before it can be viewed or shared.

Yeah just looked, it uses the phone’s native sharing interface so no need to associate wyze with google photos. Honestly never used the built in album much, just always went to my phone’s photo app. But using that interface you could also share it to email and send yourself the file, but may run into size limits on your email.

Probably want to make sure your google photos is set to use full/original resolution so it doesn’t compress it more, I can’t recall if that is the default or not.

Hopefully they fix the bug, for me going into the file manager isn’t a big deal as I’m used to playing around in there, and I don’t record/download clips from the cam all that often.

You can create link to share clips. Using storage saver resolution to save space in google drive. Already used up 60GB of my 100GB plan. One thing I dislike most is google will delete your phone local clips if I delete the clips in google photos. I make copies of the clips I want to delete then rename them after the original ones are deleted by google.

Yeah I use Google Photos to share stuff plenty using links (I don’t have much in there so I don’t use storage saver). Just haven’t bothered to do it from the Wyze app.
