Today I experienced a clunky and inefficient process for downloading a video from my Cam V3 to my phone. I don’t know when this change occurred, or if this change is the result of something on the Wyze end, or if this change is the result of configuration on my end.
I very much dislike the current process and would like to either go back to the previous process or somehow adjust and streamline the current process.
I have a paid Cam Plus plan and have recording to the SD card enabled.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Previous functionality:
View recorded event
Tap Record to record a snippet of video
Video is saved to phone
Saved video on phone is automatically backed up to Google Photos (if configured to do so)
Functionality observed today:
View recorded event
Tap Record to record a snippet of video
Video is saved to Albums, which doesn’t exist on phone.
Go to Albums → find the video → tap Share → Share to Google Photos as an upload
Go to Google Photos → find the video → download video to device.
The old process is still there but there is a bug currently where it saves both a still frame as well as a video, and names them the same thing (same file name, different extension). Android apparently doesn’t handle that well, I guess it ignores the extension when indexing files for their gallery app.
You can see more info and workarounds summarized by @crease in another thread:
Long story short, you can view the video in your file manager app, and if you rename it there, it will show up in your phone’s gallery also and should synch to google (if it isn’t already, I’m not sure if the bug prevents that or not, might be worth checking online, it may be there already). Another option is to connect to a PC or use the share feature in the app (which, as you say, isn’t the preferred approach for some, though others do prefer it).
But I am curious if you look at google photos online, can you see both the still frame and video there?
I essentially never download events, but just tried it on my Moto Edge. Worked fine. After watching the event, select download, and it downloads to my phone. Available under Files > Videos.
