Before this last update, I could manually record one of my many cameras and it would save as the video I recorded to my Gallery. Now, it shows up as a photo. This is nuts. Can Wyze please fix this issue?
Recording is working fine for me, though I do notice with the new app sometimes it saves both an image AND a video, so maybe you’re seeing the image and need to look in a different folder for the video?
That is weird. As Dave said, recordings save both a video and a thumbnail/photo. If you are getting the photo, it means your gallery is correctly directed to include the Wyze folder, but for some reason might not be recognizing the video, or you clicked on the wrong file (photo instead of the video). In my experience, you should generally see both a photo and a video when you record something.
I’ve found the newer Google Photos app to be a bit confusing. Some views show you all media, some show you specific folders, hence thinking maybe OP was looking at just one folder. I seem to remember Wyze storing still frames in one folder and videos in another, though that may not be the case with the new app.
Could be a case of the photo saving fine but the video failing due to a bad connection or something too. I believe the video saving issues were mostly with the v4 and seem to have gotten better/less frequent. There do seem to be sporadic reports of videos not saving on other models and I believe those are either explained by a corrupted SD card (or just a bad spot on it) or bad wifi connection.
I’m having that issue too. The main view I usually use used to show me EVERYTHING, and now it doesn’t show me everything, it filters out screenshots and other things that didn’t come from the camera. Very annoying. I’m guessing OP is having a similar issue. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that they are using Google Photos too, though I will say that my saved Wyze events are still showing up in my main Google Photos view, but like you said, there are different views and OP might be using a different one than I do or have some different settings.
Could also be one of the other issues you mentioned. Hard to know. Though it is interesting they’re seeing the photo but not the video.
My manual videos magically appear when I restart my phone. It’s as though the wyze app isn’t refreshing the gallery. Initially I blamed Gallery but other photo apps are the same so it looks like it’s the new wyze update that messed this up.
Odd. on my Pixel it shows up right away in the Photos app (both the still frame and the video). The wyze app just tosses a file in your phone’s photo/video folders, the phone is what then indexes and adds a thumbnail, should be the same on both Android and iOS.
Having the same problem with my v3 cams, the videos I manually record will appear randomly later in my wyze manual album on phone and the picture (.png) that it immediately saved will be gone. Videos do show in the Wyze app album.
This is a known bug, it saves two files with the same name (different extension, .png and .mp4). The Wyze app gallery will show the video, your phone gallery will show the picture only. Workaround is to share the video direct from the wyze app, or go into the file manager on your phone and rename the video file (add a 1 to the beginning or whatever). Then you’ll see both in your phone’s gallery.
thanks for the work-around!
Seems to be some sort of Android limitation with the gallery apps only indexing based on file name and ignoring the extension (combined with the Wyze app bug that is saving a still frame with every video, which I believe they’re aware of and hopefully working on). It was introduced a few app versions ago, originally the file name was different so you’d see both in your phone’s gallery, then it changed to the same name and we have the current iteration of the bug.
Though I could have sworn I saved a few videos a week or two ago and didn’t have to do the workaround, do you have the latest app update? Or maybe I’m just used to it and was on autopilot.
