Interesting. So I gotta get a VPN?
VPN doesn`t solve everything. After adding camera get connection timeout error
Iām unable to add a camera with the vpn as well. If you donāt need to add any devices you might be ok using the vpn. There are some free options out there since hopefully this is a short term thing
The few devices I still have on my account see to be working fine while Iām on the vpn though. It seems like everything works as it should except adding a device
I did try contacting my isp which is ATT to ask for a new ip address, but ATT is refusing. Maybe your internet provider is willing just to change it out for you?
The vpn hides your ip address and then if you are on cellular data youāre not associated with your home internet. Iām still troubleshooting it, but it seems like the issue is with the ip address. Iām just guessing at this point though.
Seems that way, and as I said, not sure why. But at least we are not alone. Whatās more strange is that not all Wyze customers are experiencing this. At first I thought it has something to do with my ISP, but it happened on another set of cameras with a different ISP. It was fine when I had the phone on LTE and that is when I tried the VPN.
Glad I could be of help.
It doesnāt hurt to try. They are cheap and from my experience the top two are NordVPN and SurfShark (not affiliated with any of them)
Havenāt tried adding a camera via VPN, so I canāt comment on that. Personally, I would stay away from FREE VPNs, donāt have much faith on their privacy rules.
As I said, it got fixed after couple of days on my end. It might get fixed for you as well.
Same exact issues here. Iāve reset my router, cache, uninstall and reinstalled the app, flashed firmware and no luck. I found that if I use the Beta Wyze app I can see my devices while connected to wifi but I donāt get the QR code most of the time and when I do I get āconnection timed outā. I can add any plugs either. My Wyze Sprinkler seemed to work just fine though. Good luck all!
My phone is on the iOS 16 beta but I tried from my wifeās phone which is still on iOS 15 and had the exact same issues. I was about to downgrade my phone. Glad I didnāt.
Updated to version 2.35.0.13 and still getting error code -1011 while on wifi.
Nothing to do with the app. It is server related.
Hopefully this helps everyoneā¦
I donāt know if its wyze directly or if itās one of their services that they contract out, but it appears they are blocking ip addresses
I had my isp(ATT) swap my ip address and it fixed the issue as soon as the changes kicked in.
I can use the app without any issues and able to add devices again.
As I said, not app related but Wyze server issue
Switching your IP mess anything else up? I have a lot of smart devices on my wifi network. I figure doing that would throw something off.
I have a lot of smart devices as well and as far as I can tell everything is still working great!
I have Wemo smart plugs, combination of hue/Lightify for lights, and I run an instance of homebridge and they are all still running fine. No issues with Alexa either
Its really no different than a power outage everything should just come back up except in this case youāll have that new ip address
The worst part of the whole thing was dealing with ATT to get it changed.
I have been having this issue too. I thought I fixed it when I turned my phone off and back on but it was just because i was outside. It wont work inside my work, a school, but If I turn off wifi it works just as it did a few days ago. So it is my network, but what changed it?
Also what is IP and VPN mean ?
Iām going to go basic with the definitions here
Your internet provider gives you an IP Address so that you can connect to their network and have access to the internet
A VPN creates a āvirtualā network assigning you different IP address than the one you have from your internet provider. Instead of putting all your internet activity through your internet provider it now goes through the VPN.
In your case it worked when you were outside because you were on an IP address assigned by your Cell Phone company and not by your internet provider
On your Wi-Fi ultimately all the internet things you do will get sent through the IP address your internet company gave you
You can check this by going to a site like whatsmyip and youāll see itās all the same on the Wi-Fi. If your cell phone isnāt connected to Wi-Fi itāll show something else
The issue comes down to that everyoneās IP address here has been flagged/blocked by Wyze to some extent
You can fix it by having your internet provider change your IP address or You can turn off Wi-Fi and use the phone on cellular data or You could use a VPN which will hide/mask your IP address by assigning a different one.
Using a VPN prevents new devices from being added. They eventually time out during the pairing process. I would consider the VPN option as a temporary fix though
Thank you all for your help with this. Still need to see if this work. Iām gonna try this as soon as I got a minute to call Spectrum but anyone else feel that itās dumb that WE have to figure this out and WE have to change our IP address?
Good luck with Spectrum, I called yesterday and they said āWe canāt do that.ā so I said āWho do I talk to that canā. It took them a bit to get back to me, they said the only way to change the IP address is to swap the modem out. I was going to give it a week to see if it magically gets fixed or if another solution presents itself before going down this route.
Iām done waiting for them to figure it out, its been 2 weeks without notifications. Im switching to Ring with Prime Day Deals. I have lost faith in them to get this straightened out
ATT tried to give me the same excuse about not being able to change my ip address. I ended up asking them to cancel my service and signed up for new service while I was on the phone with them. When they asked why I was doing it I said it seemed like it was the only way to get a new ip address and that I might as well collect the $250 in gift cards they were offering. I got sent to support immediately and ip address was changed
It was a lot more work than it should have been, but I was impatient waiting for Wyze to get their act together.
Att forces you to use their modem. Iām not sure how spectrum works or how your specific modem works, but usually you can log into the modem and there is an option to reset the IP. Whether or not itāll change is a different story.
My ticket with Wyze is still open, but itās been a few days since I heard from them. I sent them a ton of logs and everything and will post if I do hear back
Yep, among thousands of other thingsā¦
