Can I use the chime controller to enable both the wifi chime and the mechanical chime at the same time?
I believe you can with a compatible mechanical chime. I don’t have a Duo Cam Doorbell, so I can’t give you a definitive answer, but with my Video Doorbell v2 I’ve been able to use my home’s built-in mechanical chime (with Chime Controller installed) and Cam Pan v3s and Cam OGs as accessory chimes via the Cameras as Chime feature. Since Video Doorbell v2 is capable of using multiple chime options concurrently, I would expect Duo Cam Doorbell to support the same kind of functionality.
I have the dual cam doorbell and I use both the mechanical chime and Wi-Fi chime simultaneously without a chime controller. The V2 doorbell came with one in the box and obviously the dual did not. When I first ordered mine I looked to buy one but they were unavailable. I hooked it up anyway (without the bypass wire) and it just worked. Been working for 6/7 months now. Note: I am running is wired mode with 24/7 recording but I assume you are too if you have a mechanical chime.
Good to know that’s working for you, and I appreciate your chiming () in, @jswoboda1! I’ve read so many reports about phantom buzzing/humming/ringing when Duo Cam Doorbell is installed without Chime Controller that my personal preference would be to install the Chime Controller if I could (and they’ve been available as separate accessories for a while now), just to avoid that potential hassle. If your installation is working as expected without it, though, then I don’t see a compelling reason to add it.
Even with Video Doorbell v2, I’ve had a few Chime Controller issues, but those have been resolved since I did my own testing and figured out that my chime box had been wired incorrectly at some point before I moved in. Since I got the FRONT and TRANS terminals connected to the correct wires (they were swapped, and the system had been operating just fine that way with the previous “dumb” doorbell button), my chime has actuated as expected without extra noise. At one point prior to finding that problem I tried the alternate wiring instructions for Chime Controller, and that did work, but I also had extra noises coming from the chime that I didn’t like, and Wyze Support told me that this is expected with that wiring configuration, so I did additional investigating and solved the problem myself.
I say all that because I now recommend that people ensure that their chimes are wired correctly before beginning the installation, especially if Chime Controller is going to be installed in the box. If I had known that prior to starting (my main pre-install step was just testing the voltage with my multimeter at the doorbell button’s location, and I still recommend that), then I think I could’ve saved myself some headaches.
Yea nothing against the wyze controller, use it if its available just not always required. Humming can occur and can vary based on transformer output. i love the wifi chime though and using it for person detection at the door even if they don’t ring and maybe I don’t have my phone at the moment.
I dig. I’m eager to see the Wi-Fi Chime (and the Bird Feeder’s Lens Bracket, for that matter) available as a separate accessory. Seems like you found a cool use for it!
I also use the wise bell controller, but not the chime box it came with. Multiple Alexa devices, other cams are enough racket throughout the home. It’s nice to use my back yard cams as a chime too so when I am out back, I know somebody is at the front door. But yeah, you can use many devices as you want at the same time.
