Double notifications for same single events on Wyze Doorbell

For quite a while now, I have been receiving double notifications for single events on my Wyze Doorbell v1. I have Cams plus on this camera. I have trouble shooted and restoring factory settings doesn’t change anything. Here is what other changes in the settings has been found out…

  1. With Cam Plus assigned to doorbell and notifications enabled (both detect wyze AI events and detect any other motion enabled…i get double notifications.
  2. With Cam Plus assigned to this doorbell and detect Wyze events AI events enabled and detect any other motion disabled…double notifications have stopped but I don’t get notified of every thing the camera picks up.
  3. Double notifications have stopped if I turn off Cams Plus from this camera but I lose all features of Cams Plus.

What am I doing wrong?

I’m guessing one of the notifications is labeled “motion” the other is labeled “person” or whatever AI it picked up?

Either that or you have sound enabled also and you’re getting a motion and a sound alert.

But the intent of AI is to eliminate the “other motion” alerts, I don’t think they’re really intended to be used at the same time. Other motion covers all of the AI possibilities.

So if I disable “detect AI events” and enable “detect any other motion”, will that pick up any motion at all (person, vehicle, package, pet etc) and notify me ?

Yes it will pick up everything, but it won’t tag it as person/pet/vehicle just motion.

Ok. I will give that a try and see what happens. So it’s not a doorbell issue? I was thinking it might be and upgrading to the doorbell v2.

If one event is labeled “motion” and the other is labeled as one of the AI things, then I would suspect any of the cams would do that. Most people use AI or non-AI, not both. The AI eliminates the “noise”.

Is it every single event? I would think some would detect the AI fast enough to not send through the generic motion one, while others might see motion for a while then finally be able to identify what it is and send the second alert.

I don’t have cam plus so not sure if that is “expected” behavior or not, hopefully someone else can confirm, I think @carverofchoice and @seapup have every item Wyze has ever made

Every event receives a double notifications separated by a few seconds. I disabled AI and waiting to see what happens. I’ll comment back here when something happens. Thanks for your help.

I suspect that’s the expected result when you have both types enabled, but hopefully someone with cam plus and a doorbell can confirm.

There are 4 types of events/notifications and each should say what triggered it
General motion
AI Motion
General Sound
AI Sound

There is a 5th kind for smoke/co alarms but that should be rare and overrides other settings if you have it enabled.

So I think I figured it out with your help. Thank you. I did have AI and detect other motion both enabled and was receiving double notifications. I proceeded to disable “detects Wyze AI event” under the notifications tab, but I would still receive double notifications. Then I disabled everything in the “smart detection” tab which included Person, Friendly Faces, Pet, Vehicle, and Package. To get to these options its “Event Recording–>Smart Detection–>Person, Friendly Faces, Pet, Vehicle, and Package.”

Now I only recieve 1 notification for any event from the doorbell but every event is labeled as “motion” and not event specific such as a person, vehicle, package etc. And I am good with this. the double notifications were so annoying. My question to you now is…am I losing anything else by disabling these settings?

THanks for your hel again. Wyze support was trying but couldnt figure this out.

As a result of these changes, I think my events only record for 12 seconds so maybe it wasn’t a complete fix, What should my settings be if I want to be notified for every event that the doorbell camera picks up and notified only once. Also I have Cam Plus so I want it recorded for as long as possible…not just 12 sec.

Go into your subscriptions and make sure the doorbell is associated, maybe with the changes it somehow got removed. I think the doorbells also do more power saving (even when hardwired) than the other cams so maybe that is a limitation of “other motion”, not sure.
