So far been happy with my doorbell cam, but would be nice to not need a subscription and get more then 12 seconds of recording. By the time anyone walks up my sidewalk and gets to the door it stops recording. Other wireless cameras have options up to 60 seconds. Id be happy with 30.

I don’t get this post. If there’s no subscription, then there’s no cloud recording. But if this is about SD card recording, there’s no 12-second limitation, unless the Duo’s hardware imposes that limitation.
@theozb1 - I believe you are supposed to “jump to the SD Card” when those events happen, then you can review the footage in its entirety on your SD Card. If you don’t have a subscription, you don’t get events that are longer than 12 seconds in the Event Tab. You have to go the manual route and use your SD Card.
SD card only works if bell is hooked to 120v power. Im using wireless/battery. Would be nice to record for 30 seconds onto my sd card. Im not concerned if battery goes quicker.
Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but does the duo cam doorbell come with any removable film over the upper lens area? On mine, the upper half of the area surrounding the upper lens has a different texture than the lower half and looks like it could be a removable protective film. Thanks!
I think I understand what you’re seeing and why you’re asking, and I suspect that those two areas have a different appearance because one may be a lens covering the IR LEDs. If you turn those on and can’t see them with your eyes, then you may be able to detect them with your phone’s camera.
Thanks for the response! Im not sure that film is removable.. I tried to raise an edge to peel it away but could not do it. I wonder how we get a definitive answer..
You’re welcome! Did you watch the video? The link I included earlier should take you directly to the portion where the single piece of protective film is removed—and I imagine you’ve already done that, because it’s labeled with text—and there should be no additional film to deal with in that area. The entire video is less than a minute in length.
If you want other confirmation of what you’re seeing, then you could always include a photo in a post so that others in the community can see what you’re questioning.
Oh I didn’t realize that was a link to a video. Thanks.. that definitely helps! That clearly shows the film covering the entire area surrounding the upper lens. The remaining difference in texture I’m seeing on the upper half of that area must have a functional component as you suggest with the IR lights. Just checking all the details as this unit has turned out to be an incredible POS. Very disappointing in light of the great experiences I’ve had with other Wyze products.
I’m glad the video helps! That stinks that you’re having a bad experience with the product, though. I’ve read good and bad about that model, but I’ve been pleased enough with my Video Doorbell v2 that I haven’t seen a compelling reason to change.
I’ve had it for over a year, and I like it. It wasn’t the first video doorbell I’ve installed (that was an Arlo that my brother-in-law bought), but the local microSD storage and the ability to ring my home’s built-in mechanical chime were the primary features that attracted me to that one. I don’t have any real experience with Ring. I’ve had a few challenges with the Video Doorbell v2 and feel like I’ve learned a lot about that one by troubleshooting it. What’s giving you grief with the Duo Cam Doorbell?
It was good for the first 2 weeks, then the sensitivity went way down regardless of the settings. Would not trigger unless the distance was less than 2 feet. Additionally, it would record to the cloud but only intermittently to the SD card. Basically useless. Wyze tried to keep me in the perpetual “troubleshooting” loop but finally agreed to replace it today. Fingers crossed !
That’s frustrating. They do try to get you to do a fair amount of troubleshooting, but they’re also pretty good about replacements if you’re within the warranty period and bought directly from them or an authorized retailer (and can document that). At least that’s been my experience doing Support tickets with them via e-mail. They replaced my Video Doorbell v2 after it stopped reliably actuating the chime, and then I did some additional testing and troubleshooting on my own and was able to resolve the issue with the old hardware.
That’s just the way Discourse (the Forum’s platform) works. You can try selecting a different Theme to see if that helps things stand out better, or you could probably use a browser extension to change and force different styles, but then you might end up liking it so much that you spend a bunch of (too much?) time here interacting with other users.
