Hi!

Hi!
I have a wyze v4 camera, I’m not sure if it supports wpa3 encryption. I remember I managed to connect in November 2024, but not since then. What is the reason for this? Is there anyone here who can connect with it?
Read the last scores of post on this 5 year old post. I started about the V2 cam but has continued to V3, V3 Pro V4, OG. cams Scroll up and down the post to find what you need.
Yes, the V4 cam has WPA3 support. It’s noted in the general features section in the specs for the WiFi transmitter.
It doesn’t work for me. What could be the reason? I have set up wp3 encryption on my router and it won’t connect.
You need to reconnect the cam so it will negotiate at WPA3. In theory just pressing the setup button and going through the setup process should do it, but may need to do a factory reset and re-add it.
There were some reports at one point that the v4 was having trouble connecting when the 2.4ghz was set to AX mode (instead of the older N mode) but haven’t seen that lately, and I would assume the others above are using AX mode.
If I have two cameras on an account and want to set one to wpa2 and one to wpa3, will this affect the connection? Should both be set to wpa3?
I tried resetting it to factory settings, but it didn’t connect. I deleted the camera from the account and then added it again, is that what you mean?
If you need both WPA2 and WPA3, there isn’t much point, you’re going to have to run WPA2/3 mixed mode which isn’t a huge benefit over WPA2.
If factory reset didn’t do it, you can try deleting it from the app (which will factory reset it again) then re-adding it. But given some others have run into issues, I’m wondering if the WPA2/3 mixed mode of the router is the problem. Maybe set it to WPA3 only, see if the cam connects, then change it back to WPA2/3 and connect the other cam.
The v4 has the latest firmware and you’re running the latest app right?
By factory reset I mean holding the setup button for like 20-30 seconds until it reboots and goes into “ready to connect”.
The two cameras are located in separate cities but connected to the same wyze profile (connected to two separate routers)
No mixed mode, I just set it to wpa3 and it doesn’t connect. But you know what else is weird? Without a subscription I can record the short recordings and instead of pictures I can play them all.
How far are you getting in the setup process? What step are you stuck at?
I entered the wifi code and the pairing process failed. But the whole camera is weird. Read my post above.
Encryption type shouldn’t matter. I currently have my v4 on WPA3 and the rest on WPA2.
Oh ok, that’s fine, the app doesn’t care that one is WPA3 and another is 2.
On the v4 also? You may have gotten a free trial subscription, it asks you for that when setting it up so you may have accepted it (some also include x months with purchase now too). If it is only your older cam, then that one may be on cam plus lite.
They do seem to be picky about router settings. Some have them working perfectly well on AX (wifi 6) and WPA3, others seem to have problems. But it should say something like “unsupported encryption” if that is the reason.
Maybe connect it with WPA2 and make sure firmware is updated on it, then try again?
Yea, the subscription thing, idk… just stay quiet and enjoy it? lol
When it fails, what does the camera say? Network not found, encryption not supported, or any of the sort?
The v4 uses Bluetooth during setup. Is it on with access granted to the Wyze app?
No it is most definitely not a free package. I can’t change any settings, I can only play videos instead of pictures. The subscription menu does not show any free subscriptions.
If I set WPA2 it can connect, but WPA3 does not work. Otherwise I have an Asus Tuf 3000V2 router.
Yes the latest firmware version is installed, I reinstalled it yesterday from SD card.
Yes, the bluetooth connection is established and I can select the available wifi networks, but when I enter the wpa3 code the connection is not established, it just keeps charging but nothing happens.
Try this - delete the cam from the app. In the app settings do “clear cache” then in your phone settings under the wyze app, do the same. Factory reset the cam by holding setup for like 15-20 seconds until it restarts.
Set router to WPA3 only.
Reboot router and phone, try setting it up again.
If that doesn’t work, there must be some combo of settings the cam doesn’t like. What is your wireless mode on 2.4ghz set to (auto, b/g/n/ax, n/ax, etc)?
What screen do you see at the point of failure?
I’m not at home right now (I’m working) and I don’t know off the top of my head what mode is set. I’ll write it later.
If it works on WPA2 but not 3 the SSID and password should theoretically be fine. But if all else fails, it might be worth setting up a guest network with very simple network name and password just to see. Obviously set it to WPA3 only.
The network is 2.4G of course.
The password was 56 characters long and included special characters (A Secure, Strong Password Generator | 1Password) But I tried it with 20 characters and it didn’t accept it. Wifi name I chose from the wyze app.
