Want to know this before I buy it. Want to use live-view/pan/tilt/waypoint pan scan it in the field without 3rd party
WiFi (like home WiFi) but only device’s own and the phone’s WiFi. If travel mode is not available, can this be done by phone’s WiFi hotspot?
The Pan V3 can be used with a phone hotspot - I have do it.
On potential gotcha is during setup. You need a phone on your Wyze account that is associated with the WiFi that you will be using for setup. While your phone is operating as a hotspot, that same phone is not using the hotspot, so you would need a second phone for setup. The other alternative is to use the same SSID and password that you use for some other WiFi (home for example) and set up the camera normally using the home WiFi. Then when you are traveling and you activate the hotspot with the same SSID and password, the camera will connect to it.
I can offer some ideas that I was playing with , sorry, no real answers. A few years ago I was considering putting some cameras at my parents house while it was being renovated. There is no network there, but the neighbor has the same ISP as I do. The ISP offers hotspots in their cable modems and I was able to hop on the hotspot with my laptop. I picked up two V3 cameras and a small travel router. I initially set p the travel router on my network and set up the V3s on the travel router 2.4 network. Worked great. I then moves the travel router upstream connection from my network to the hotspot in my cable modem. Worked great too. I never got a chance to move the travel router and cameras up to their house as the contractors were getting in the way. Since everything worked with the travel router and cameras I’m thinking I could actually travel with the hardware, connect to a hotel Wifi and have everything work too. I’ve taken a couple of cruises with the hardware and thought about setting it up on the ship, but I really don’t want to pay for the internet access at sea. I do, however, set the cameras up on the balcony on the ship and record leaving and arriving. The cameras have 128GB SD cards installed and are powered by an Anker battery. The magnet in the bast holds the camera to the bulkhead rather nicely.
If you set up your Pan Cam on a travel router, you should be able to connect the upstream connection to any network that can get you to the internet and have it work well. May be a delay though trying to send commands to the camera. You won’t have to set up the camera each time you use it, just connect the travel router to a local Wifi network, or the hotspot on your phone as K6CCC did.
I’ve also had the idea to use the travel router remotely and connect to another travel router on my network at home to establish a private VPN so no matter where I am, it looks like I’m at home.
Thank you both sharing your very helpful experience, knowledge and suggestions.
I would add/clarify my intention of using Cam Pan V3 in the fields/woods, The phone/tablet and Cam Pan V3 connect each each other directly with WiFi, and phone/table can still control/use most camera’s functionalities without 3rd party devices like a WiFi router. This is similar to how GoPro works ( I had an old GoPro session 5, I know it works that way).
K6CC, after the cam connects to the phone’s hotpot, do you know if the same phone (with hotspot) can control the cam by the Wyze app on it? I would think so because they on the same WiFi network, but I would like to know if you have the experience.
PLEASE people. The vague directions for doing this are not helpful. Step by step anyone? I’ve tried repeatedly to connect a camera to my phone via hotspot to no avail. I want to be able to monitor my car when traveling and staying at motels. For some these instructions may be helpful but I need to know step by step cause it ain’t working. Thanks
