Connecting a Doorbell Camera to the Wall Plate

I can’t get my doorbell to clip into the Face Plate. The wires don’t give a lot of play but it seems like things are lined up but it won’t snap into place.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it possible that you’ve over-tightened the screws when mounting the Back Plate to the wall and put a slight warp in the plastic that’s preventing the top of Duo Cam Doorbell’s spring-loaded catch from clipping into place? I don’t have this particular video doorbell model, but I’ve seen that with others, like Battery Video Doorbell. Slightly loosening the mounting screws allowed the plastic mount plate to relax (un-warp) so that the device could snap into place and remain mounted.

That might cause it but I don’t have them overtightened. In my case the wires are causing the FacePlate to bend so I can only get 2 of the 4 holders to snap in place. It should be redesigned with a thicker plate that would give room for the wires.

Well, I was just guessing. Like I said, I don’t have that specific model, but looking at the Quick Start Guide for Duo Cam Doorbell it appears to hook into the Back Plate at the bottom and then rock to click in at the top, similar to Battery Video Doorbell. I know from experience that if those screws are too tight on that model then I can’t get that click that rocks the doorbell camera into place.

I wonder if a 3D-printed extension would be practical in your application. Although this topic was originally about an angled mount, @t0n3 indicated that the Thing page has been updated with additional models for flat mounting:

My primary access to 3D printing is through my local library, and I used that to create a custom mount (which I want to redesign) for my Video Doorbell v2 that gave me a downward angle and more space for the wires.

I noticed that in another topic you’re talking about having this problem with the original Wyze Video Doorbell (“v1”). Are you having this issue with two different Wyze doorbell models?

I’ve got the opposite problem. I just got a Wyze Doorbell Camera. Relatively easy to get everything set up but I can’t get the doorbell to attach to the Wall plate. The wires don’t give a lot of play but it seems like the 4 prongs from the Plate are going into the Doorbell but it just won’t click into place.

if anyone has any tips send them along.

hey @patdolan13 We have a few options now as far as doorbells go, can I ask which specific doorbell you are speaking of having? They all have different options for how they connect to their fastener plate.

As far as the wires go, do your best and try to fit them into the hole into the plate which goes back into your wall. i’ve actually added longer wires to myDuo doorbell And having much more wire back there caused me some headache for a little bit but I’m back into the wiring hole actually helped me.

I’ve got the Wyze Video Doorbell (wired). Like you the wires are the problem. I can get 2 of the holders to Snap in place but the other 2 won’t be caused the wires cause the Face Plate to bend a bit. Not a good design. The Face Plate should have been thicker and left room for the wires to fit in comfortably.

you cant Maneuver the wires more into the wall they are coming out of that way there’s more room in the body to fit the rest of the wires? it takes some dainty work with so hemostat pleirsbut I was able to do that with mine. noting in electrical is easy it seems :frowning:
