Thank you , this method worked finally! Pretty sad this is what it comes down to but works
Thank you or worked for me as well.
I have run into this issue several times with several bulbs. I joined to say that method of turning off the bulb finally worked for one of my stubborn bulbs!
Hopefully we can spread the world via this post so others see this solution.
Having the same issue now, on May 17 2023… 5 Bulb Colors keep failing their update. I’ve tried turning one off in the app and starting the update, but still a failure. Twice now, when I physically turn off the fixture it’s attached to, the bulb factory resets, forcing me to add it again ![]()
Does anyone else violently regret their involvement with this company? I have had trouble since 2022, when all my bulbs stopped showing up as connected in the app out of nowhere. I stopped trying to control them via app until now, 2 years later, when they all seem connected normally in the app again. Some weird backend bull.
I just installed two Wyze Color bulbs. One installed and the Firmware update went fine. The second (from the same two-pack box) kept failing on the firmware update and then would go off-line and I would have to factory re-set the bulb and re-add the device from scratch.
After several attempts with the same results, I searched the forums and found some old threads suggesting a fix. I followed this and the firmware update worked the first time. This is what I did:
-
Add the new Wyze Color bulb from the Wyze app per usual.
-
Use the phone app to turn off the bulb by using the on/off button immediately to the left of the brightness slider.
-
Unplug the lamp the bulb is installed into from the power outlet. I imagine you will need to remove the bulb from the socket if your bulb is installed in light fixture that cannot be unplugged.
-
Plug the lamp back in to the power outlet (or reinstall the bulb into the fixture).
-
The bulb will be ON, so use the app to turn it off as in Step 2 above.
-
In the phone app, tap the “Settings” icon, then “Check for Firmware Update”. Tap to perform the update.
Doing the above worked first time.
By the way, I use an iPhone, the firmware version I updated to was 1.2.0.509 and the bulbs were purchased through Amazon in the U.S. but I brought them home to Canada to install here.
Try that, hope it helps.
It’s 2025 and this same issue has never been fixed. They’re still like a Soviet-era experiment.
Me too. Recently bought color bulbs and have tried everything, finally got more and the same issue. I can’t even use them because they turn off or flash randomly.
