I have a 4 pack of Wyze Color Bulbs v2. I installed 1, and I tried multiple times to update the firmware. After failing to upgrade, from then on it says offline for firmware updates, but I can control the bulbs in the app. I reset the bulb, try again, same thing. Tried that 3 times, contacted support. They replaced the bulb and sent me a new one. They send a V1 color bulb (original). It won’t update the firmware and has the same problem. Tried 2 more V2 bulbs from the 4 pack and those fail too.
Wyze Bulb Color V2 - 1.0.2.6 → 1.0.2.14
Wyze Bulb Color V1 - 1.2.0.359 → 1.2.0.509
Why do I have a feeling this is all a problem with the new V3 wyze app? I have to wonder if there needs to be a ‘jump’ firmware version, where they need to be updated to something in between those versions before going to current.
I’m about ready to invest heavily in changing brands of lights, and cameras now. Wipe Wyze out of my life.
When I needed to update my Wyze bulbs (color and white), I had problems if the bulbs were “on” (in the app), and had to make sure they were in the “off” state.
To be clear, the power had to be physically on, but the bulbs needed to be in the "off’ state in the app.
Then the firmware updates would work.
Not sure if that is still the case, but that is what i found many months ago when I last updated the firmware on the bulbs.
Wow, You are 10x better than the Wyze support team! Not once in the thread about not getting the firmware to update, did they suggest having the bulb turned off (with power to it obviously). I just finished updating the firmware on 4 V2 bulbs, and 1 V1 bulb to the current version. 1 V2 Had to reset it 1 time and re add it to the app (used same name) And the next time it updated fine. 1 other V2 I had to reset it 2 times and try the update 3 times after the last reset before it actually updated fine. Go figure.
I have a bunch of Matter bulbs showing up in the next few days from 3 different brands to test. Everything from 800 lumen like Wyze v1 to 1100 lumen like V2, to 1600 lumen (100 watt equiv). If I can add them directly to Amazon (have lots of shows and dots that support matter) And fully control color as well as the wyze app can, and have them not even have to use wifi, I think I will be replacing all my wyze bulbs. And get a lot of devices off my wifi.
Having trouble applying this solution to update to 1.0.2.14 firmware. I tried turning off the power within the app, but it doesn’t hold the setting. The app recommends updating to new firmware and all bulbs are connected, but I have no control including turning them off within the app. The switch is on and all lights are illuminated. Reset and reconnected them several times.
All color v2 bulbs running on 1.0.2.6 firmware with 3.1.6 app version. All v4 cams operating with no problems.
