I tried to fix a choppy video recording issue with my wyze cam v3 by placing an access point right next to it. See attached photo. The access point is plugged directly into the router.
Yet, the video still remains choppy, with only 70% signal strength! This video is a recording (capture) of the wyzecam v3 device live stream taken from the wyzecam app. Focus on the seconds display and how it periodically jumps. How do I fix this!
WHat is the FW version of the v3? I am not experiencing this issue, but I also Beta test Firmware.
Current Production FW for the v3 is: 4.36.8.15.
One of the thngs I would try is to move the Access point to an opposite wall. I have seen where you can over power a device if it is too close to the WiFi Source. Moving the WiFi may alleviate this issue. Also, make sure it is indeed connected to the Access Point closest to the v3.
To see if it is the v3 Camera and the location it is at, move it to the center of the room where there is no walls around it and then test to see if the issue is still present.
Last option to try is to unplug the power from the camera, wait for about 15 seconds and the connect the power again. Once it is fully up, test to see if it still hesitates.
Thank you for the suggestions. I tried moving the AP around with no success. I moved the camera a bit, but the point is to have the camera where I need it.
So, I tried replacing the camera – and voila. Smooth recording. Signal strength jumped from 70% to 92%. Didn’t even need the additional access point close up on it.
I remember reading somewhere that some of the antennas on these V3 cameras are really bad. As I think about it, I’ve had connectivity issues with this particular camera from day one. I just assumed it was the wifi signal (hence, placing an AP right next to it).
I have had a world of woe with choppy | stuttering | hesitating video from my WyzeCam v3 cameras. I’ve tried moving the access points around, getting cameras as close to APs as possible, finding the best channels and bandwidths, upgrading APs, and nothing seems to work. Every Wyze camera I have deployed has jumpy video – except for one I just installed it today. And it is also the only camera that does not come up with DTLS:
The WyzeCam308 is a v3 camera that replaced the choppy v3 camera in the exact same position. The previous camera came up with 70% signal strength. The replacement camera comes up with 98% signal strength. Nothing else changed, except the cameras. And as you can see, the newer one does not have DTLS. So I’m wondering, what exactly is DTLS, and can I turn it off?
Or, can I revert to previous version of firmware? 4.36.3.19
So apparently that’s an SSL (TLS) tunnel using UDP instead of TCP. The cameras should negotiate it the same way though (for a given firmware)? Perhaps your router/firewall is throttling things somewhat randomly?
The whole network (up to all the access points) is hardwired except for the wyzecams. I can’t imagine why everything would be throttled except for the camera running the 4.36.3.19 firmware.
