I missed the memo on Wyze changing its policy on providing short videos without a subscription. I have five cams and have historically recommended this cam because it offered flexible capabilities for longer recordings while also providing free short onboard SD videos.
If this has changed, there are many options on the market. If there is a way to still record videos on onboard SD cards without a subscription, please let me know.
Recording video to the uSD does not, and never has required any sort of subscription.
Cloud based events used to not require a subscription with the limitation of 12 second recordings with a 5 minute cooldown between events. That changed several years ago. You can still get that capability with CamPlus lite which you can name your price - including free. That is however limited to the older cameras models.
The volunteer team saw that too. Also a new development out of Customer Support. It was escalated for confirmation and clarification. Awaiting a response.
UPDATE: It appears that the posts claiming this were possibly due to incorrect Customer Support information, a miscommunication between CS and User, or a misunderstanding of what was being asked and\or answered. Signing up for Cam Plus Lite is not limited by the age of an account. It remains limited to the model of cam as it has been for some time.

Introduction of Cam Plus Lite and implementation of Snapshot Thumbnails for Basic accounts with no subscription was in March 2022. Cam is Lite is limited to cams V3 and prior.
