Just bought the Wyze Can V4 and found out it will not record to my sd card without a subscription. I would never had bought it had I know this. I have 5 older Wyze cams and the all record to the sd card. This is ridiculous. I can’t even record to my own camera and card. Wyze is blackmailing you to subscribe. I’ll be returning the camera, This is no way to treat your customers. You need to change this policy!
Of course it will. You don’t even have to do any configuration, once you power it up and put a card in, it automatically starts recording to it.
Are you using the V4 cam? I set it to record continous. When I touch the SD card icon is says no video available. They are trying to force you to subscribe with the new camera.
Yes, I’m using the V4 cam. Records to SD card fine, continuous 24x7 recording. Format your card and see if it helps. If not, cam (or card) may be defective.
Please quote or link to your source stating that a subscription is required to use the SD card, as that source needs to be corrected.
Please be aware that this is primarily a user-to-user support community and that Wyze employees generally don’t monitor posts, though there are some exceptions.
I am, and as @dave27 indicated the camera will record to microSD without subscription. I wonder if you have a bad card or if it’s been properly formatted. I’ve had good results with 256 GB SanDisk Extreme or SanDisk High Endurance microSD cards set for Continuous recording in my Cam v4s without subscriptions.
Welcome to the Forum, @JDW!
Nothing in that article says you need a subscription to record to SD card. That article is primarily about Cam Plus event videos (which you do need a subscription to get). Note that Cam Plus event videos are totally different from event videos on your SD card, they are stored in the cloud and can be played right from the notifications, unlike the SD card where you have to go into the SD card to view them (and you can do that without any subscription or payment beyond the cost of the SD card). It will even send you notifications with a thumbnail (still picture) attached for SD card events, again, no subscription or added cost.
Perhaps your original post should be more along the lines of “My v4 is saying no video available on my SD card, please help troubleshoot that”.
First step in helping you is if you can post a screen shot of your SD card screen under the cam settings. There can be some clues there as to what is wrong.
Thanks for your input. Just bought the card you suggested and now it’s recording. Glad to find the problem. I guess the old card Lexar 32gb wasn’t up to the task.
You’re welcome. Since you mentioned “old”, I imagine that’s the problem, because the cards can and do wear out. I think with larger-capacity cards you’ll experience fewer write cycles over most of the card, or at least a larger card should take longer to hit write cycle limits than a smaller card, so I hope that works out better for you.
Cam v4 officially supports microSD cards up to 512 GB, and unofficially other users have reported success with cards that size in other Wyze Cam models. The consensus I’ve gathered from reading the Forum is that SanDisk High Endurance and Samsung PRO Endurance cards tend to give the best performance over time, or at least that seems to be the community opinion.
