Same thing happened to me. (iPhone) worked flawless until about 2 weeks ago. Works fine when within local network. But will not work(live stream) on any external network, cell or WiFi. Once in a great while it will authenticate for about 2 seconds then drop. Wyze cam must have changed something? Same thing happened to a friend at work, he uses android phone. Another co-workers works fine, the only difference is that he pays for a static IP. Maybe it’s a “nat” issue.??
Update on review
3 of my 4 cameras in different locations went down and cannot be restarted remotely
Problem is that they are thousands of miles away and I won’t get to them for months
It seems that if the internet goes down they do not automatically reconnect when it gets back online pointing to a major software flaw
So cheap and easy to set up yes but totally unreliable so AVOID
This never happened with the overpriced Nest camera that I had for 4 + years
I would not buy these for this kind of setup you have however to fix the remote restart/reboot I would connect the camera to a wifi outlet and you can remotely switch on and off. There is one on sale for $10 at Amazon right now. One thing to remember with these cameras you get 2 weeks worth of cloud storage which is great.
Thanks I will look at it on Amazon
i know that WiFi works in my two other locations since other devices connected to it work fine and beside that I never had a problem with Nest in 4 years
however connecting to WiFi thru cable means running Long cable lines to WiFi box and that’s not possible
are you talking about a remote on / off power switch that I could access thru WiFi and that would power up and down the camera ?
Firstly, if your WiFi is truly down (i.e. router is hung in a bad state), you won’t be able to reconnect anything. If the router is ok, your next chance for recovering is using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CC9S4MS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which can be controlled through something like Alexa or its own proprietary app. I refer to it as “chance” because you are still depending on WiFi for communication.
Having said that, I never understood why camera manufacturers don’t build in an option for cameras to ping an internet location and reboot themselves after a predetermined number of failures to connect. This is all doable through software and therefore adds no extra cost. I would bet most times this would resolve connectivity issues for cameras whose WiFi get into bad states etc. and simply save someone like gdedalmas the headache when miles away from the device and its not practical to get there just to reboot. Wyze would do well to upgrade the firmware to do something like this. Come to think of it, perhaps an AC outlet that pings and power cycles after verified failures would be a handy accessory. Do they exist? It could recover routers, cameras and the like.
Back to the issue at hand, I believe the main complaint here is about just making a reliable connection from anywhere outside of the home WiFi. Wyze support is well aware of the complaint, but no conclusions as to the root cause yet. It may be helpful for those here who still experience the problem to simply state which of the 3 stages the failure seems to occur.
The stages are visible in the App during connection attempt. They are:
- Connecting
- Authenticating
- Getting Video
When the App requests the video stream while inside the WiFi network, does that traffic come straight from the camera to the App, or does it still route outside the WiFi network up to the could servers and back inside the WiFi network to the requesting device? I think a lot of this can be isolated by process of elimination. I will maybe share these thoughts with Wyze support and see what they think. Hopefully this can all be fixed soon and Wyze can be the most awesome camera on the market!
First of all
thanks so much for answer
WiFi is not hung up and working fine in both places as other devices are connected to it but not 2 Wyze cameras that stop responding
I just purchased : HUGOAI WiFi Smart Outlet, Mini Smart Plug 4 Pack, Compatible with Alexa & Google Home/IFTTT, APP Remote Control from Anywhere, No Hub Required, WiFi Enabled Voice Control Smart Socket
hiping that I cam re
otedly Power down / up Wyze cameras and that they would then reconnect to WiFi but I won’t know for a while but will test one in NYC to see if that works
you are absolutely right they should have software prompting the Wyze cam to reboot when left on and not connected to WiFi
mas I said I never had similar problem in 4 years of use of Nest cams in same 2 locations and same WiFi networks
Both cameras fail connecting at stage 1
first one in location A error code : 90
2nd one in location B error code zero
Today connectivity outside my home WiFi from cell LTE has been good and time to connect quick… Yaaay! Hopefully Wyze has done something on the cloud server end and hopefully the performance remains. Would be interesting to hear from others in this thread as to whether their performance is back to normal.
@gdedalmas, error 90/42 in my observation can be due to no power to the camera. I speculate that the camera stays in touch with the cloud account about its whereabouts and the account connects requests from the App to it. When the account doesn’t know where the camera is, it returns error 90 to the App. In the interim before too much time has elapsed since the camera gave its status, error 42 may also be returned… (not sure exactly what that one means). <<- These are just speculation from observations.
Today I discovered that the power cord itself to one of my Wyze cams has completely failed. This thing was just sitting on a shelf in my garage. This will be the flat white cord itself. The AC block is good, but the cord itself does not deliver any power. I’ve hardly ever heard of a piece of cord going bad without it being abused. Makes me think that the current load is too great for the micro connections in the flat-ish plug and burned out. Now thinking safety hazard! Granted the garage has been quite hot on these summer days. Maybe exceed the 104deg operating temp spec.
Can all of you in this thread who were having trouble with connectivity to your Wyze cams from outside home WiFi please report back if all is well now?
Thx
Not possible because cameras thousands of miles away when they need to be I plugged manually to reboot since Wyze did not include an auto reboot software fix
on top of this my daughter told me that 2 of the 2 cameras she installed in Europe on 220V worked for a couple of days then went solid yellow pointing to problem with 220 V while it is written on camera and on web that they are 110/220
never had any problem for years in same US and foreign locations with NEST
I submitted a ticket — reached out through their Facebook page— and got excellent help. It took a couple weeks and multiple tickets were merged but my problem has been resolved completely and I can now view the live feed at work.
The same problem here. When connecting from outside it works for 1 of 10, or even 1 of 100.
Looks like wyze is selling new cams without scaling the HW infrastructure (of course it cost more money in AWS). As result it creates high load stress on the system and looks like they are somehow prioritizing only new cam, sold recently (activated recently), so user will not return it for a while.
I just got my Pan Cam… Absolutely love it. I did notice at home on my WiFi it connects great. After leaving my home and going to work. My mobile connects to work WiFi and I am unable to view my Pan Cam. I decided to turn off WiFi and see if that was it. I can only view my Pan Cam outside my home only if I’m disconnected from any other WiFi. I then was able to connect. Is that correct? Can I view on another WiFi connection outside my home? Thanks. Sorry don’t know all the big technology words.
@sweetnsassy1226 The good news is that if Wifi and Cell Fi works for you, then probably your work WiFi is blocking the kind of traffic that comes from cameras. Try connecting from a Starbucks WiFi and if it works, thats proof that your workplace network administrators don’t trust you :wink
I am having the same problem… I have 2 Wyze ver. 1 cameras and 1 pan camera all on the same WiFi network… zero problems with the original cameras… but I can only access the pan camera when I’m on the same WiFi network… I can very rarely access the pan camera from another network? Maybe 1 out of 50 times? And doesn’t matter if a try from WiFi or LTE cell… Have tried rebooting the camera… app on iPhone and router… no help… can anyone please help me with this? Please???
thanks..
Why ver 1? Upgrade to ver 2 and they may work better…
would rather have the 2’s but I already paid for the version 1’s… and they are working ok… it is the new pan camera that is giving me the problems…
Similar problem with my v2. Cannot connect from external network after the home router is rebooted. Power cycle the v2 does make it accessible again. I guess it is some port forwarding rule is created during power cycle. Any clue?
Has this been answered?
