Can Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 be used with a Cellular Hotspot?

I have several Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 cameras that I currently am not using, but I’d like to put them up in a location that does not have WIFI. I’m thinking of getting a cellular hotspot. Will these work with a cellular hotspot? I am guessing yes, but I’d like to confirm before actually purchasing the device and adding it to my plan.

Thanks

I think I answered my own question. I tried to set the base on my home network, and I had to plug it into the router so I could set it up. I thought these bases could optionally be setup for WIFI, but apparently not. There is no way to configure the base to work with WIFI.

So, I guess I’ll have to look at other options.

I think your answer might be only partly correct. This is what the FAQ says on the product page:

Is the base station wired via ethernet or is it wireless via Wi-Fi?

Wyze Base Station requires an ethernet connection on the router during setup. After setup, you can connect to the base station via Wi-Fi in the Wyze app and unplug the ethernet cable. Then, place the base station anywhere you want as long as it has a Wi-Fi signal.

So, yeah, for setup you’ll need the wired connection to the router on your home network, but you should be able to convert it to Wi-Fi (and use it with a hotspot, I’d think). See also:

I like repurposing things, and I think you have a good idea. I’d want to test before deploying, though, maybe by trying to use a phone as a hotspot first or borrowing one, if possible (some libraries have hotspot lending programs).

Have you tried Travel Mode?

Correct. I have done this in the past while traveling. I ran it off my laptop’s hotspot in hotels, AirBnBs, etc.
