Cameras stopped recording events

I have about a dozen cameras of different models installed in 2 different homes (about 6 at each). I just noticed that I haven’t received any notifications from the cameras at one of the homes. Actually, I had 2 notifications from 1 camera over the last 2 weeks which is ridiculously low. The other home seems to be working fine. I get constant notifications from that one. I hadn’t changed any settings in quite some time so I don’t know why they would stop recording or identifying events.

After going through the settings of all the cameras I noticed that notifications were turned off on a couple. How could that happen? I didn’t turn them off! Wyze turned off my event recording? I made sure they are all turned back on and increased the detection to make sure they would pick up cars going by on the street, but these are still not recording events.

What is the problem? Anyone else have this issue occur recently?

After spending some time today going over all my settings on my 5 active cameras located at this particular location, this is what I have learned. 4 of 5 cameras had the event recording turned off. This is not something that I would have done. Why is Wyze turning off my event recording? I have also noticed other settings being wrong (this isn’t the first time that I have seen this) such as the Wyze logo being turning on. I turn this off on all my cameras. Why is Wyze messing with my settings?

As for the 1 camera that didn’t have the event recording turned off, it overlooks my front yard and usually picks up lots of events especially at night when passing cars always activate it. It only picked up 2 events over the course of 2 weeks and did not pick up my landscapers at all which would be impossible.
I increased the sensitivity and expected the detection zone on my cameras. They are now at least picking events again, but why did they stop working? I can’t have my security cameras turning themselves off.

I’ve never had my settings change, including event recording, notifications, etc.

Maybe there is an internet issue at the location which is causing both problems? I have noticed if I have a bad cell signal, the settings will initially show the wrong thing sometimes, even though they aren’t actually changed. That could also cause event issues if you’re using smart detections (or even if you aren’t and it isn’t able to upload the event before it times out).

I’d recommend confirming that you haven’t shared the cams with anyone, and look at the “trusted devices” list in your account to make sure no unknown ones are in there. Probably not a bad idea to reset your password and make sure you have 2FA on also.

Wyze isn’t going in and messing with your settings. I haven’t even seen a firmware or app update cause that from what I recall. But you can also try doing the “reset services” to see if there is just some synch issue between the cams and server. Just note after doing that you need to go change your detection settings back to what you had before (or what you want to have there).

My cameras are mostly 3 years old or more. I always turn on event recording and turn off the Wyze logo. I turn other things off as well. Why would these have suddenly turned on? Why would an temporary internet issue suddenly cause my saved settings to change?

I am the only one with access to the cameras and the account. I also apparently have 2FA based on what I had to do to sign on today on my computer. I generally only access my cameras via IPad or Android phone.

I was saying a connectivity issue can cause it to not be able to read the settings or can cause a delay before the correct settings are shown in the app. If the settings actually took effect, i.e. the logo is showing on the video, then honestly no idea how that would happen, some sort of glitch. But it isn’t wyze doing it manually or programmatically. Maybe they tried to update their firmware and it didn’t go right, or perhaps there was just some issue on the server your account is on and some settings got lost.

Another possibility is if they can’t connect to the server well during a reboot, they won’t download their settings, so it could still be a connectivity problem. But in that case I’d think they’d revert to default, and disabling notifications or event recording is not the default that I recall.

As long as the settings stick after fixing them I wouldn’t worry about it, probably a one time thing.

Have you checked the trusted devices in the app to ensure none are there that you don’t recognize? I’d also check under sharing to make sure nobody is in there also.

The account and devices are not shared with anyone. The only trusted device shown is my laptop browser from signing in this morning. Even my iPad and Android phone are NOT listed as trusted devices, yet that is where I regularly access the cameras and also got the trusted device information.

Are you trying to say that if the internet goes down in my neighborhood that some of my cameras are going to change settings to not record events and also turn on the WYZE logo for the cameras? And then when the internet comes back on that the cameras are not going to change back to the proper settings? If so, this sounds like a poor device design.

Every device you’ve used to log into your Wyze account (which includes the Wyze app) should be listed as trusted. At least assuming you’re not logging in every time you launch the app. So if your other devices aren’t listed, something seems off.

If your camera reboots while the internet is down, a lot of stuff will not work right on it until the internet comes back, at which point it should download all its settings, set the time, etc. I don’t have a list of which settings are stored locally on the cam, not sure if the Wyze logo is one of them or not. It has changed over time. But if your cam reboots when you have no internet, you’re going to have more issues than just those settings, at least until connectivity is restored.

At this point I’d try clearing cache in the app (both within the app and in the OS), logging out and back in to the app, and doing “reset services” on all the affected cams. Just make sure to check your detection settings after resetting services as some of those settings will change back to default.
