This just started within the last day. I’m losing up to an hour and more with no events recorded. All these cameras have been used on Starlink wifi and have been working fine. Out of nowhere today I was noticing no events for an hour plus on different camera’s so I checked the Starlink and it’s telling me there are outages because the cameras are trying to switch bands. I didn’t change a thing with the wifi service. What’s going on? Can anyone help me? I need the cameras up and working ASAP because I’m recording harassment from a household in the neighborhood.
The cam v4 only supports 2.4ghz so it would not try to switch - it doesn’t even know about the other band.
Perhaps a firmware update on your starlink router made it more aggressively try to “band steer” devices to 5ghz, which some routers incorrectly try to do with 2.4ghz only devices.
The fact that the router is logging that the device is switching bands implies that the router is the one initiating it, since it would not know that otherwise.
If the router allows you to disable band steering, or smart connect, or whatever starlink calls it, try turning that off. Most devices do not need it these days, nearly all modern dual band devices will prefer 5ghz (in the early days they would prefer 2.4 due to it having what appeared to be a stronger signal, but drivers and firmware were updated long ago to fix that in the devices themselves).
Hi, Thank you for the response. I was able to do a bit more investigating this morning. I hadn’t been looking around the Starlink app much lately because everything had been working flawlessly. As it turned out, I was able to look at each device on the network individually and see that all the Wyze cams had no events or outages. All the brief outages were actually my phone hopping off to get on cell data then hopping back on when I got close enough to home. Lots of short potty break walks for multiple dogs!
Also, I didn’t realize the newest camera wasn’t set to record vehicles, so I thought there was a problem which made me think something was wrong with that i needed to fix. WHEW! Hope Thai all made sense! All is well after all!
