These cameras are a constant nightmare for me. I purchased them for the sole purpose of security. Two of my cameras are constantly down. The one by my shed goes offline pretty much 80% of the time and error code is for Internet connection issues, when it’s the second closest camera to my router. Second camera that spends most it’s time offline is inside my house. Literally 3 feet from the router and says it can’t connect to the Internet. I have to reset all of them every few days because they go offline and need power cycled.
My biggest gripe. Is the captures. I get “cloud errors” on a lot of the captures. And most importantly when I shot an animal on my property, in clear view of the camera, it did not detect me, the person behind me run, the muzzle flash, or anything. Most states you have to prove threat to justify and how would I do that if I have the sensitivity turned all the way up and it didn’t think to register any of it? It got me clear the corner of the house with my light. Got my guard dog go around the back of the house. But the critical parts it apparently saw nothing happening.
The reliability of the capture is awful. And having to reset them all the time get REALLY annoying. I pay for the most expensive plan because of how many cameras I have, but what good is cloud errors and offline cameras?
They are all up to date on software. They are all V4 wired cameras. My Wi-Fi router a Gen 3 starlink. All the cameras have their own outlets. What gives?
For real security I would never trust or use cheap WiFi cameras. For your situation I would go with a wired NVR system.
Second, Starlink being a satellite internet has a high latency and that might be causing issues with your connection. If I remember correctly, many users and not only Wyze have been reporting connection issues with Starlink. As @StevenA suggested, check the settings in your Gen 3. Not familiar with that particular gateway so I can’t offer you specific troubleshooting.
I’m having quite similar with V3 WIFI cameras. We’re con to inually clicking and waiting for many came to complete it’s “secured connection” and once connected, may or may not get to setting or SD card recordings. Most cameras come in with 2 or 3 signal bars.
I see it mentioned a lot to turn off 5g WIFI on our routers. I have tried this but it makes no difference. If the cameras only support 2.4g, they should not even see a 5g band. It does not hurt to try this turning off an important part of our routes features, but only for a test for improvements.
Wyze doesn’t offer those, though they’ve been requested, and @AvgBoomer tagged the post with cam-v4, which is a “wired” Wyze Cam. Wyze considers “wired” cameras to be “not battery powered”, and all of their Cams to date (AFAIK) use wireless network connections. Their language can be a bit confusing, but you can see this in the Help Center, where they have separate tiles for “Wired Cameras” and “Wireless Cameras”, and on their Web site they make the distinction a little differently with “Wired Cameras” and “Battery Cameras” categories.
I don’t have any experience with Starlink, but I do wonder if the problem is within the network itself and not with the Cams based on what’s described here, and I also understand that Internet access options can be limited in rural or remote areas where someone might be confronted by a predatory animal. I also wonder if microSD cards are being used with continuous recording in these Cam v4s, because I would expect those to potentially provide useful footage for defending a deadly force incident even if a cloud event wasn’t captured. I’m not reading any indication of that, though.
