Sorry, I know this cannot be new. But I want a reliable method to reconnect my two v4 cameras to my 5G router.
They were working but after a router reset i cant connect them. The router has 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi. I cannot gain access to my router to temporarily restrict it to 2.4GHz to do a setup.
When I type in the 2.4GHz SSID and password it will not accept. It says it cant find the name. I’ve tried it many times. (It is correct as i connect to the same using my phone. ) What is going on. It has worked before on the same router . Also I have a v3 wyze camera and it is still connected and working. Im so irritated by this issue im going to trash the whole Wyze ecosystem if I can’t fix , as well as the Wyze name. Brian.
Are you trying to access the router through an App or web browser? I would try both if you have not yet.
You might also hit the Reset button on your router to take the router back to factory settings. From there you should be able to set the router up like when it was new and out of the box.
I believe you must gain access to your router configuration to be able to troubleshoot the connection issue.
Hi.. thanks for answering. I am in South Africa, BTW. The router is the only access I have to the internet (5G) where I live so i am stuck with this particular broadband solution. I don’t know where it originates (no name like ZTE or dlink etc). I actually have now got into it and even switched off 5MHz to test (leaving only 2.4GHz on) and still the Wyze v4 will not see its SSID. Even if i type it in manually it will no longer connect . Very frustrating. It says it cant find the name.
Turn off 5Ghz on your router, tap airplane mode on your phone, then tap the wifi icon on your phone to ensure your phone is using WiFi-only with no access to your phone carrier, enable location and Bluetooth on your phone, then try setting up.
Did you try a factory reset on the cameras? If they have SD cards in them take them out. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on on your device/phone and that it is connected to the 2.4 network. Press the setup button on the camera and try to set up as new again. You don’t have to delete it from the app.
If the Wyze app says it can’t see your SSID, it’s because your phone and your cam are not on the same network. Your phone is probably using your mobile/cellular connection. Phone and cam need to be on the same local network. Disable the cellular connection on your phone and ensure it is using your local WiFi.
Yes, i even set up a guest access on 2.4GHz and set it to WPA/WPA2-PSK, same result.. the app seems to be unable to find the SSID and if I type it in it says it cant find the specific name.
I don’t think Cam v4 allows special characters, including spaces, in an SSID passphrase or password. Only numeric and alpha upper/lower case. Try setting up a WiFi hotspot on your phone specifically for the problem v4 using alpha/numeric SSID and password and please let us know what the outcome was.
Language should be ok. It’s the keyboard that causes issues for some when switching between languages or attempting to use an International “smart” version.
This has not been my experience. My home Wi-Fi network has two spaces in the SSID and a string segment from the “63 random printable ASCII characters” line generated at GRC’s Perfect Passwords as the passphrase. That segment/passphrase contains several special characters. My Wyze Cams and other Wi-Fi devices have worked with this for several years.
What I’ve wondered as I’ve read through this is if the SSID is being broadcast. I haven’t specifically seen that asked or answered, but I know that Cam Floodlight v2 users with “hidden” SSIDs had problems with connectivity after that device’s firmware was updated some months ago. I realize that @Zozo mentioned in a previous post manually entering the SSID and still having no success with the Cam v4 connectivity, so I’m just trying to get a better understanding of what’s happening here.
My SSID is hidden and I have no issues with setup typing in the SSID manually (including Cam v4). Perhaps Wyze fixed the “no special characters” issue. I think it still exists on Wyze’s own routers. We still have a wishlist request on that.
I had to change my SSID when I 1st set up my Cam v2s and have just kept using alphanumeric every time I change.
have you reied using a wifi analyzer app to verify that your phone is on the 2.4 ghz signal and not the 5ghz. For instance my particular router broadcasts both but my phone will connect to the 5 gigahertz, so I actually have to verify that I’m on the right frequency before connecting certain cameras. That is the only thing I’m coming up with and I didn’t see clearly enough if you had tried that particular one. I apologize if you have.
This was a useful test. I set up a 2.4GHz hotspot on my phone. The v4 saw this ssid and I was able to connect v4 and view the v4 feed!
But when I set up the same ssid and password on a guest network on my router, same issues as before . It cant see the ssid and even when I type it in, the v4 says it cannot see the specific name and it will not connect.
