The camera battery pro looks awesome.
Who has one already?

Thank you for the feedback!

@Noria,

My comments are from an android point of view.

We have 3 WBCP cameras. All three are mounted external to the house. They all are connecting through chicken wire stucco.

The oldest was installed about 14 months ago and monitors our driveway. I confess, I’m an early adopter and there were some early issues that were resolved by Wyze within a month or so. You asked about connectivity. This unit shows 0 - 1 bar in Device Info. In the past year it has been rock solid, even with the low connectivity reading!

The other 2 units monitor the bird Feeder and one side of our property. Both units show diminished connectivity according to Device Info. 1-2 bars. Both are going through
chicken wire stucco.

You ask about battery life. With a solar panel you can expect a fully charged battery, 96-100%, on a daily basis, depending on your geographical location (we’re in the bay area).

Image quality is good. Choices are HD or 2.5K. Following are a couple of screen shots from the cams at HD resolution.

You ask about recording and this is where the battery cams give up some flexibility. The WBCP, to extend battery life, has a very low power mode. The time for the image to appear in the app is 9-11 seconds. Compare this to 3-4 seconds with usb powered cameras. This means you cannot run the WBCP in continuous SD record mode. The battery will only last approx 8 hours. Solar does not help as it can take a few days to recharge a battery.

I believe the cameras have a pre roll function as the driveway cam can pickup a car pulling into the driveway. It does not take 9-11 seconds.

If you have a use case for a battery Cam then the WBCP is a good candidate.

Might as well be a foot thick concrete wall, pretty much a perfect faraday cage, more likely they’re connecting through your windows

Possible.

Driveway WBCP Is located above an all metal garage door. No windows in sight. O bars but it works flawlessly on the 5GHz band.

Bird Feeder is at our rear property line. About 50 ft from router. It is stable with 2 bars on 2.4GHz band. It does have line of sight through the patio doors.

The side yard cam is interesting. It is only about 10 ft from router but it is parallel to the wall. It’s basically going through a bunch of studs. Seeing 2 bars on the 5GHz band.

I’m impressed, especially on the 5GHz band. :+1:

You’d be surprised the path the signal can end up taking, out a window, bouncing off another structure, going into the attic and through the roof, etc.

Equally amazing just how effective chicken wire is at almost totally blocking RF and EMI. But it will sneak out in any gaps, windows, or indirect paths it can find, just obviously has a pretty big impact on the signal.

My house has aluminum siding on most of it with a foil vapor barrier under it. Windows and the small section that was added on back with vinyl siding are my only hope of getting signal outside, and surprisingly the signal is pretty strong all over my property, Granted my AP is mounted to the ceiling of the 2nd floor and I have lots of windows.

Aha, you mounted the AP in the best possible place. 10 years ago I could get in the attic. Can’t do that any more. :weary:

My attic gets way too hot to put a standard AP up there, but where it is now works great. I did have an outdoor AP mounted in the attic with antennas on the roof years ago (neighborhood wifi) and it managed to survive, but standard home router wouldn’t stand a chance. Funny thing is it basically didn’t provide any coverage on my property, was too high up and the antennas had 6dbi of gain, but I could stay on my wifi 3 streets over
