Hi.
Firmware upgrade to 4.52.8.0648 turned out to be a disaster to me. My V4 can’t see my wifi anymore (the same wifi, other Wyze cameras have no issues with).
I tried to downgrade the firmware.
Red light comes up. Then, single blink (fraction of a second) of purple light and then, back to red light.
No flashing happens and camera just says “Ready to connect”.
When I took out my SD card from the camera (after unsuccessful flash attempts) and inserted it to my PC - Windows says there are corrupted data in the card and upon fixing issues, I can see folder structure created by the camera (folders, etc.)
I tried factory resets, different cards, etc. - I’m not able to flash back older firmware.
But many people have found things that weren’t working, suddenly went through successfully when they switched to a 32GB card.
Windows probably only fixed it by telling everything to ignore the corrupted sectors. If some of the data from the firmware files were written to that sector, you will need to delete and copy over the files brand new.
Honestly, if your SD card was corrupted, I would use a new SD card. It is highly likely the issue.
I used this SD card before with my Wyze Cam Pan V3 (for firmware downgrade too - unfortunately, Wyze frequently droops the ball with Firmware) - worked with no issue.
There are no corrupted sectors on the SD card. I formatted the card before using it for firmware downgrade. After powering on the camera with SD card in it - camera creates folder structure (e.g. folder timelapses) and other content. Windows detect some of the content as “Lost chains” and fixes it to free the space. This is not an SD card issue. Also, other cameras (like my Pan V3) do not cause such problem with the card. This is purely Cam V4 issue.
Yeah, I’ve had 16GB and 128GB cards work to flash some past cams too, then had some cases where it wouldn’t flash other cams until I switched to 32GB.
I have flashed cameras so many dozens of times now that I can’t even count them. It could be anywhere from at least 4 dozen times to possibly as many as hundreds of times as I flash to a specific firmware to help other users or sometimes as a favor to some of the Wyze devs to see if something will resolve an issue I am able to replicate for them on a particular unit.
But I can understand being certain the card is fine when it worked with another model. I just thought I’d mention that LOTS of people have had problems when they try to use something other than a 32 GB card, and then when they finally do, it magically works for them, so I thought I’d offer the suggestion since it wasn’t working for you. It indeed could be that your particular unit is being finicky or defective or something.
Regardless, I know what it’s like when a Firmware flash doesn’t process the first couple of times, and that can feel miserable.
Let us know if you get it figured out and what worked for you.
Mate, thank you!
I’ve missed this out. This is a problem with “routine” because I recently had an issue with messed up firmware for Wyze Cam Pan V3. I downloaded and flashed that firmware many times and I never had to change the filename as zip file contained the right name - regardless of firmware version.
Here, for no obvious reason, Wyze changed the filename in the ZIP package and I didn’t notice this. My mistake but I don’t understand why woudl Wyze do this. @grapefruityoda and @Antonius - big thanks guys !!
Now, my camera is back online !!
Still, latest firmware and Waze’s QA - suck.
I did. They offered only 1 solution: “send us a proof of purchase and MAC address. You may be entitled to replacement or voucher”.
Their QA is still horrible. This entire issue is (and was, with my other cameras) because they pushed a firmware that messed up a working camera (before my Wyze Cam Pan V3 and now, Wyze Cam V4).
