I will preface this by saying I am a network engineer so I understand connectivity very well.
I have 2 Cam Pan v3’s that are just refusing to maintain a WiFi connection. I have tried every troubleshooting step in the book to no avail. Today, I decided to place 1 of the 2 DIRECTLY ontop of my Unifi U6-Pro wireless access point and the other 10 feet away but still well within the propagation zone. Using the android app WiFiman, my Unifi Networks Home server portal, and the wyze apps own wifi strength meter, I recorded DB’s between -15 to -25, and 3/3 bars in the wyze app. As soon as I attempted to click on the camera in the app, both cameras lost their connections and refused to reconnect until I performed a factory reset by holding the connect button down for 10 seconds and added them back to my app. I have been a longtime owner of these camera and am really starting to get fed up with the constant disconnects and finagling im having to do just to get these working like they should be. Does anyone have any additional troubleshooting steps that arent just “turn it off and turn it back on”? I need advanced assistance, not the basics please.
Did they ever work? If they’re years old, the cheap wifi chips in these sorts of devices degrade with heat over time.
But the symptoms you’re describing don’t sound like a wifi issue, sounds like it connects fine but the cam crashes as soon as you try to view it or something?
Are they running latest firmware?
I have 2 Pan v3s and I’m surprised at how well one of them deals with a very weak wifi signal. They’re coming up on 2 years old now and haven’t noticed any loss of performance yet.
I bought these 2 on Nov 27th, 2024 and they worked great when I got them. They are deployed outside under an awning so they aren’t in direct sunlight nor exposed to rain/weather effects. The firmware they are running is 4.50.5.1318, which is the same as the other 3 Cam Pan v3’s I have that are working perfectly fine.
Are they mounted cam on top or on bottom? My one mounted cam on bottom, even under an eve and with lots of precautions taken, still got water in it within 6 months or so. The replacement has been mounted upright, but there are covers available and other things people have used to protect them. It was having some odd symptoms similar to what you describe.
However, the power adapter seems like a possibility too, are you sure you’re using the 2000MA one that came with it, and have you tried a different one equal to or greater than that amount to see if the original might be dying?
Ive been using the v3…i have 2 cams..1 which only worked less than a week and the other around 2 months…all of a sudden the one that was actually working suddenly stopped…now both are written to reconnect…ive tried ALL the troubleshooting steps to no avail and when i try to do the factory reset all i hear is a sceeching white noise sound and the red.or yellow or even blue light never show up
Has there been any update to this? I’m having the same issue. Both cameras have worked totally fine then I moved and had to switch internet providers to xfinity and now neither pan cam v3 work. My pan v2 and v1 work fine on the network with no issues. Everything is up to date as well.
For whatever it’s worth (for anyone following this recent topic on Cam Pan v3 connectivity), a new beta firmware has been released which may or may not help. I’m not advocating that everyone jump into the beta program to try this, because I personally value stability, but I wanted to mention it here because it potentially means that another Cam Pan v3 connectivity improvement will be incorporated into production firmware at some point in the near future.
