I’m loving the specs for both of these cameras but am looking for some feedback on the suitability for monitoring my front and back doors. I have available power for either inside or outside and windows at both locations that would be suitable locations. I love the flexibility of the pan/tilt/zoom of the Pan v2 and night vision looks great. But, I’m curious how well night vision works through a window. Both locations have existing outdoor light, though it’s not great. I’m mostly concerned about coverage and flexibility at the backdoor/deck which is shared by other units and on a public alley. Thanks for any input!
Here are a couple of things to think about. Both the V3 and Pan V2 will work with low light and will work fairly well through a window during the day. At night, however, reflections off the window will cause problems. There are ways to mount the V3 that help prevent or minimize this by placing the lens against or close to the window while blocking background light. Much harder to do with the Pan Cam. If you don’t need the pan/tilt function you’ll probably be happier with the V3. You can mount them outside, but remember the V3 is considered an outdoor camera (if protected properly from rain) but the Pan V2 is not.
The starlight sensors just need a little bit of light to work. There have been cases where just a full moon has a “night and day” difference to when there is no moon. Personally my preference is cameras that don’t pan for stationary object coverage. I had a v1 pan in use for a long time, but never used the pan/tilt functions or waypoints. But that’s personal preference and your needs, wants and use case may or will differ. But the starlight sensors are crazy good. I enjoy making time lapses of the stars.
I’d go with the V3 unless the wide 130° field of view of the V3 isn’t enough.
Thank you all for confirming my suspicions. I was leaning towards the V3 but I’m a geek that likes the idea of PTZ. I appreciate your thoughts and time to respond.
Almost. :). The camera only has the pan and tilt functions. The zoom part is only a digital zoom in app. There is no optical zoom. You are just zooming in in the 1080p digital image.
Yeah, I know but thanks for the clarification. Typing the acronym is just shorter than spelling it out.
