Cam outdoor

Mine didn’t even come with a cowboy hat?

Want one?

Just happened. A doe just walked through the area in front of my camera. Maybe 15 feet from camera. Walked not running. Camera response? Nada … nothing … zilch. Think putting the cowboy hat on it would solve the issue?

Oh and the battery level is at 85% and signal is showing two bars out of three

I agree got Mine today & couldn’t be happier great detection & notification on mine & it’s about 40 feet from the base station

there is no bridge just a base station

mine either

wow… i just spent an hour on the chat line with someone debugging this same issue to no avail. the Outdoor Cam does not record events most of the time, no notifications when i walk in front of it, nothing. Very disappointed in this highly hyped camera. Sure hope a new firmware fix will be coming soon.

I am having the same issue! I have tried all settings but see know difference. I have a ticket in but have had no response from Wyze.

Been two days on my ticket, and no response either. Great customer service it seems. Must be working from home . That is what always hear lately from a vendor. COVID 19 must be the reason the camera doesn’t work as a motion detection. Lol

i have the chat recording but almost 2 hours of time wasted. this camera is junk at this point in time IMO. My Cam v2s work perfectly. I think using the PIR detector for motion sense is huge challenge. very hard to do. total waste of $50.

Purchased annual membership of Cam Pro. Does not seem that this can be applied to this camera. Does anyone know about the plans to make it available for WOC?

I had the same problem, but now got it to work with some Forum answers. Main issue is that on the camera itself the green window has to be aimed exactly at what you want to detect, by moving the WOC physically and using the setting window under Detections at the same time to see where the window is aimed, to see the area and aim it where you mostly want; and then the range is limited. Then I set the close/far setting to 80 and the sensitivity to 60 to avoid small objects and detect heat (persons, animals) etc . Now I get good detections and good video, 12 seconds but in the zone I wanted. If that sounds confusing, I agree but it works now.

Thanks for the info. Gave it a try last night and by midday today no joy.

So is PIR Latin for “ can’t see squat “?

Well maybe not but after all that P does stand for passive … if it was anymore passive it’d be in a coma!

Also many probably saw it, but at first I didn’t see the small piece of protective plastic film covering the lens and pir. Helped to remove it, probably there for shipping only. Now it’s all better with the other adjustments.

Does anybody have any insight on the purpose of Night IR Lights? They suck the battery and from my research are counter-intuitive on a camera that is using Passive Infrared technology. Example if you walk into a dark room and you turn on a single light, its very easy to see the change - when you flood the room with light and turn on a single light it becomes much harder to detect a change. Seems to me what you might want is something that illuminates the area briefly so that a picture can be taken of the area combined with a brief 12 second video. Thoughts?

I lost power and internet for several days due to the recent storms. I had to turn the outdoor cams off, then back on again before they would connect. This could cause problems for those that intend to mount them in not so convenient locations.

The IR LEDs emit IR light to illuminate the area in front of the camera so you can see the person or thing that triggered the PIR sensor. At that point the PIR sensor has already been triggered so the IR LEDs won’t have any effect. Since the LEDs only come on after motion is detected they don’t affect battery life when the camera is in standby.

To sort of answer your other question, even IR LEDs that are on all the time like an external IR illuminator don’t really affect PIR sensors because PIR sensors detect changes or differences in IR radiation. When IR LEDs are on they’re flooding the area with an equal/constant amount of IR radiation across the whole area, so there’s no change or difference for the PIR sensor to detect. It could potentially make the PIR sensor less sensitive to smaller changes since the base level of IR is now higher, but it would still work.

The nighttime IR lights appear to only come on when motion is detected by the PIR and presumably when video is recorded.

On my camera the lights are visible when on (faint but still visible) and I see them come on when I walk up into range. On the video clip there is a split second delay visible between ambient lighting to the IR lighting.

To add to this, I have a separate IR flood that is always on at night right next to my WOC and have not had any trouble detecting stuff. The flood was there before I got the WOC and is there to help my V2 that is mounted at ground level.

Thanks Quiet - at this point ANYTHING that could reduce the sensitivity in my situation would be a BAD THING. My camera is mounted 12 feet above the ground and any video that i have captured at night when the IR Lights were on was worthless. The IR doesn’t illuminate anything on the ground only the eves directly above and around the camera hence does me zero good.

On the Advanced Settings I see Night Vision Mode and underneath that I see Night IR Lights. I was under the impression that Night IR Lights when selected FLOOD the area all the time - which can and in most situations reduce the sensitivity to IR heat. I suspect Night Vision Mode when selected automatically floods the area once motion is detected? And when I say flood the area I mean directly around the camera and in my situation not enough to illuminate the subject 12 feet below the camera potentially 10 feet away - looks like others are using more powerful flood lights to compliment the WOC. I am left with the feeling the flood lights on the WOC aren’t strong enough to make a difference in my use case.
