My mother has dementia and, while she forgets things like keys, she never forgets her walking routes.
I’d like a lock that can detect her being nearby and unlock.
Having done a basic amount of research, it seems that what I’m looking for is a bluetooth lock.
I like that such locks work within a relatively short distance (15 feet or so).
From what I can see, you can have such a lock recognise your phone OR a fob.
Lock descriptions don’t often mention fobs, I suppose because phones are “sexier” to pair with.
In my (mother’s) situation, it would have to be paired with a fob.
Which lock would be the easiest to set up, that I can pair with a fob myself?
Where would you recommend I purchase fobs and which fobs?
It would be nice, if lost, I could exclude the lost one and pair a new one without too much cost.
Thanks, for reading and / or answering.
Unfortunately, the Wyze locks aren’t for you if you need a fob to pair it with. Wyze doesn’t [officially] support that. It is designed solely to work with a phone and/or the keypad.
You could go ask Reddit for suggestions of locks that support key fob pairing. Maybe in the smarthome subreddit? https://www.reddit.com/r/smarthome/
In theory you might be able to make it work with the original Wyze Lock in a very complicated 3rd party work around that wouldn’t be reliable (ie: use the Home assistant 3rd party Wyze integration, then get a keyfob that works with home assistant and pairs to that, then make an automation that locks or unlocks the lock based on a trigger from the key fob), but this would be beyond abilities of most people to implement and it’s more of a workaround hack than something reliable like you should have if keyfobs are critical.
Best of luck finding something that fits what you’re looking for.
