I bought the Wyze Video Doorbell v2 Battery to replace the 1st gen doorbell that finally gave up.
I was excited to see the battery advertised to last 8 months, albeit ideal conditions. I also like the dual cameras for packages.
I like to know when packages are delivered or when someone’s at the door. However, I think that’s what’s draining my battery. I get notified there’s a package which works great. However, it keeps notifying me every minute or couple of minutes after the initial notification until the package is retrieved. Sometimes that can be several hours.
Seems like today’s tech should be able to distinguish if a package looks different from the last notification and not notify me unless someone comes to the door of if there’s another package delivered - something changed about the coverage area the doorbell is capturing.
I don’t want to toggle the notifications on / off or for packages b/c I would forget to turn them back on - which defeats the intention of the additional camera.
Based on your post body, I think you’re writing about Duo Cam Doorbell and not Video Doorbell v2, which does not have a battery. You chose a tag for Battery Video Doorbell, but that device has only a single camera. If you can confirm what you’re actually using, then you or a Moderator could update your tags, and you may also wish to edit your post title and/or body for better community visibility.
Some additional information about your situation could be helpful:
What firmware version are you using? My recollection here in the Forum is that there were a lot of complaints about constant package detection events and notifications for Duo Cam Doorbell shortly after it launched, but this issue seems to have been remediated with firmware updates (and I would guess some back end changes, as well).
What can you share about your Detection Settings? Specifically, knowing how you have your sensitivity set and whether or not you’re using a Detection Zone could be helpful. If you don’t already have it enabled, I’d consider toggling on Motion Tagging (green boxes) to help identify what’s triggering your events. (You can turn that off again later if you don’t like the boxes.) Right now I wonder if your video doorbell is being triggered by some other motion (I’ve had it happen with a waving flag visible from my front porch) and then sending the package detection notifications because it identifies that in the images it begins capturing as a result of motion detection. Changing your Detection Settings might help with that.
If you had another Wyze device that you could use as a timer (I’m thinking of something like a Plug or Bulb), then you could write an Automation that would turn off notifications for this doorbell for a given amount of time after a package is detected. I don’t see a way to do this natively with Duo Cam Doorbell, because it doesn’t have a “Snooze notifications” Action, so that’s why another device would be needed for something like this. Probably that’s not necessary, though, if you can adjust some of your Detection Settings to account for what you’re experiencing.
