sometime in the last few weeks my doorbell v2 started constantly notifying me when a package is sitting on my porch. like every 30-60s. obviously the initial notification is wanted, but there is no movement to trigger a new alert, the packages are just sitting there. is anyone else experiencing this and more importantly does anyone have a solution for this?
I have V4 and V3 PRO cams that will keep recording the same package if it is in the field of view .I end up with about 30-40 different “Package” event videos. I have notifications turned off.
I don’t have my Video Doorbell v2 currently installed, so I can’t test. I do wonder, though, if you’re absolutely certain that there’s no other movement that’s triggering an event which would then cause package detection to be incidental. You could be right about no movement at all. I’m just thinking about how in the past I’ve really had to tweak the Detection Zone and sensitivity settings because of wind blowing bushes, trees, and a flag and triggering motion detections, even if it’s just shadow movement sometimes (also headlight reflections off the side of the garage at night).
If you’re not already using a Detection Zone, you could try setting one and also play with the Motion Detection Sensitivity setting. Even if you don’t use Motion Tagging full time (some people don’t like the green boxes), you could temporarily enable that to help troubleshoot a Detection Zone and tweak the sensitivity settings. That’s probably where I’d start.
I’d also make sure your firmware is current. I know for a while after Duo Cam Doorbell came out there were lots of complaints about overzealous package detection, including for objects that weren’t actually packages. I think that was eventually resolved with a firmware update and possibly by some back-end AI training/updates, which Wyze also seems to do periodically.
firmware utd. I’ve had the camera for probably two years now and this just started in the last few weeks. it’s at least not showing anything else that’s triggering notifications, and it only says package detected. motion zones are set.
I wonder if it’s an AI model update then, if your camera’s settings and environment have otherwise been constant. Several months ago, I was getting gunshot and other weird sound detection notifications from my Video Doorbell v2 (and so were other users), and that eventually resolved, probably because of stuff Wyze is doing on the server side. (In that same topic, another Video Doorbell v2 user was also complaining about extraneous package detections at that time, too.) You might just have to wait for a solution, though I’d consider submitting a log and opening a Support ticket that references the Log ID just to get this on their radar.
