Base Station a weak Link in the Network

Due to the battery limitations of the outdoor cam, it does not have the ability to connect to wifi without the base station. The base station does most of the work.

Why does the outdoor cam come with a base station? Is this required? Can i not connect an outdoor cam directly to my home wifi like the rest of my Wyze cameras? Is the purpose of the base station to just extend the wireless signal?
