Empty calorie post⦠or is it?
I was thinking the other day about how Wyze Forum frequent posters have changed over the last 3 years. Yes there still are some regular posters still with us, but many regular posters from 3 years ago are MIA.
I am not sure if attention span is changing or just a different batch of regular posters are now here.
You and I know that the Discourse forum platform has internal stats that attempt to estimate things like attention span (how long folks linger on pithy posts or whatever.)
Mod @spamoni knows, too.
Iād be willing to bet that those stats would substantiate the gut guess Iām venturing.
We donāt need no stinkinā stats.
(2019) A Wyze Person of Authority at the time:
The Forum definitely had a different character in those days. The character of the impatience was more āforceful.ā
(Bitch threads HUNDREDS of posts long were common.)
Thatās what they said when you went out in your new duds, huh? āBitchinā threads, man!ā
None of the mods nor mavens nor staff ever said that to me. They are hard to impress.
It is my hypothesis that Wyze social engineers solved this problem by better segregating customers into different social media silos - divide and conquer!
Yāmean like how occasionally you might see one Forum user tell another to āgo back to Redditā?
Sure, you might see the odd one. Heās not a bad sort.
With respect to silos, the forum has grown more geezery. So might attention deficit be greater here because weāre subject to technology AND aging?
(I am a geezer so speak frankly to my brethren in our dotage.)
Silos:
- Forum: Old(er) and relatively reasonable
- Reddit:
- Facebook:
- Discord:
- Etc
Wyzeās descriptions:
- A bustling community hub with real-time chat, live events, and regular giveaways.
- A more technically advanced community.
- A place where sharing of photos and videos is more common.
- A community with separated topics connected to the Wyze site.
I think I mightāve seen it from more than one user, but thatās just going from memory and probably not worth spending a lot of time thinking about.
Silo | (Completely Unnecessary) Opinion |
---|---|
Forum | I dig it and choose to spend time here. |
Useful for AMAs. I havenāt (yet) been told to āgo backā there. ![]() |
|
My honest opinions would very likely draw unwanted negative attention from the Mods. | |
Discord | I like the āfiresideā live events but the format isnāt ideal for long-form nerds like me. ![]() |
Etc. | The YouTube videos can be helpful, informative, and entertaining. I donāt follow their channels or accounts on other platforms. ![]() |
Your sections for āSilosā and āWyzeās descriptionsā reminds me of those survey or quiz items where the participant is tasked with matching an item in one column to an item in another: āDraw a line to connect the two thingsā¦.ā
Well let me be the first to sayā¦GO BACK TO REDDIT!!! ā¦but also please stay here tooā¦it doesnāt have to be mutually exclusive and you can spend 95% of your Wyze time here, 4% in Discord, and 1% in Reddit and youāll still āgo back to Redditā
Yeah, thatās why I spend most of my time here too. I like how it is structured better.
Yeah, please continue this. I enjoy you here.
To answer Froggyās question, Gwen said in the past that ebs and flows are pretty normal. The mods have stats on all this and there are certain times of the year that ALWAYS get really busy and others that always drop off low. Release events and other things also make a huge difference.
It is.
This was based on a recent social media post that got some attention and showed up on Daily Mail. The Gen Z teacher is not dead. I could have sworn she described herself as ālateā (where in the Gen Z range she fell) but going back to the article, she didnāt.
Attention span is declining everywhere. I consider this self-evident.
Wyze is a technology company but they arenāt the main driver for this trend, just a willing passenger on the bus.
Theyāre mum about a lot of things - as are we all.
@peepeep, see? See?!?!
Iām perpetually logged into Discord, mostly for notifications about software/firmware/product drops. I just donāt give it a lot of active focus.
I agree. I really like using this platform and learning what it can do.
Oh, sure! Way to make it all about you!
You mean like the burst of ānew app is teh sux0rzā topics last summer?
