Apple Watch Integration Ideas

Imho, Wyze will never bother now that they have their own Watch. Wyze is basically a marketing machine, they don’t manufacture, they use contract coders, they run on AWS, etc. They learned how to leverage social media as good as the best of them to create an almost cult like following. They push out beta products as early access and the cult salivates waiting to lap them up. Then a year later will buy the latest new version or pro version and on and on. Meanwhile those users dismiss the few complainers about all the bugs and missing features. Say something negative about Wyze on one of the social platforms and see the result. Although moderators have stepped up to try to limit the personal attacks.

Wyze like many others is ultimately beholden to their investors, users are just a financial reporting statistic. Wyze is all about revenue and growth and eventually profit. They decided to ignore a limited demographic, like Apple Watch users who generally are willing to pay for a premium product. Many apple users are interested in HomeKit compatibility which is not a native option with Wyze products, which also informs whether to consider Wyze or not. I’m not counting on Wyze to ever be apple compatible.

@jlansford …I know a direct Wyze Apple watch would be great, but as a work around, do you have Alexa in your home? I can use my voice to set the Wyze thermostat from my Apple Watch using the “Voice in a Can” app for IOS and Apple Watch. Same for every other Alexa connected device in my house, all voice controlled from my watch via Alexa using Voice in a Can.

Hi Raym!

I do not use Alexa or any at home smart assistants, but this is a good potential workaround!

Ah, I see. I use a lot of Alexa devices and have since before Wyze. When I found the Voice in a can app for Apple watch, it was great for controlling all the devices using my watch from anywhere. Apple Watch doesn’t have native Alexa support, so the Voice in a Can app was a great find for me.

IOS 16 will be giving us the option for this. They mentioned this in their live event in May. I looked at the list of smart devices and Wyze’s name was on there. Not sure if it will be immediate but Apple is adding the ability to control Wyze on the apple watch

I believe this is for future compatibly - not necessarily for existing devices. Wyze devices like plugs, switches, possibly bulbs, etc seem simple enough - homebridge can currently add them to HomeKit. But as far as I know, the current cams lack the substreams to meet hksv - this was discussed when I was beta testing a cam device and the project mgr told us it would not meet the requirements and he was unclear if apple offered any waivers, plus from what I’ve read, matter is not yet including video cams. Maybe someone here has more details. I’m not concerned since I use homebridge and other 3rd party solutions.

The current cams do lack the proper requirements for HomeKit.

We did apply for a waiver and were denied.

That is also correct, Matter v1 is mainly bulbs and plugs.

Apple Watch App for door Locks

I would love to be able to use my Apple Watch to lock and unlock my front door. I had this feature with a competitor and it was helpful if you prefer not to have the door unlock and lock by Bluetooth proximity.

Checkout homebridge with Wyze connected home plugin. I run it on a 12 yr old netbook running lubuntu, it probably has less computing power than a raspberry pi, but works great for homebridge. If you don’t have an old pc or want to avoid Linux, you can get a preloaded RPi with hoobs, which is a commercially packaged homebridge. Considering Wyze MAY only offer new devices with Matter, this is the only viable solution for older Wyze devices. (Not cams, they still require more to generate a compatible stream).

Yes, works great via homebridge. Btw, I’m the one who added the Wyze lock to the existing Wyze homebridge plugin. Glad you found it useful :grinning:

Just installed a v3 camera and garage door controller. Interfaces with the Wyza app on my iPhone. You should expand your presence in the Apple world by adding an interface from the phone app to the Apple Watch. I would love to be able to activate the opener from my watch. Preferably by voice. That would be so much easier than using the iPhone. Then I could get rid of the garage controller residing on my sun visor.
That could open up the garage controller to millions of Apple Watch users.

Great idea!

While we are wishing, I wish someone would write a bridge between Siri and Alexa. Then all that cool Alexa stuff could be run from the iPhone’s voice assistant.

I hope this happens with ios 16? That would give me what I want.

Ios 16 is already up to version 16.5.
How would I use wyze on my apple phone 16.5?

Some people are confused about apple HomeKit supporting matter in the iOS 16.x cycle thinking that suddenly everything is going be seamlessly compatible - it’s actually more of a hopefully near future wishful thinking situation since it requires the device mfg’s to also produce their things to be matter compatible or be able to push out firmware that adds the support. But the vast majority of existing devices may be left behind - plus it does not yet include cams of any sort. Apple can list Wyze since Wyze has also signed on for matter, but that does not mean wyze will be able to add matter to existing devices nor does it mean Wyze will add matter to all new devices. Been pretty quiet on the announcements so far.
