Alexa not reporting motion

Motion are not being reported by Alexa. Alexa will open the Camera when I ask, but does not notify me of events. Alexa reports movement for my other two V3 but not for the Solar Cam

In the Wyze app under Account > Notifications > Push Notifications, did you check the box for the cam? Also in the Alexa app, what events are you seeing for the cam that Alexa shows as available to report?

My routines have basically died since Alexa plus has launched. I’ve added a new camera to replace a very old model I bought in 2020 and since adding that Alexa routines do not work with the new camera. This is infuriating.

Yes the Solar cam is checked. In the Alexa app I can see and get notifications.

I can see all the right things to set up notifications via Alexa routines but none of them actually work now. If I make a new routine it doesn’t work. If I edit an old one the routine breaks. Very frustrating.

I need to correct my last. In the Alexa app I can see live video, but it will not show events and will not make notifications.

Welcome to the Forum, @1sirgaines!

I’m trying to understand what you’re experiencing. Do you use a Wyze subscription?

I don’t really use Alexa notifications on my phone, but I do get voice announcements from a couple of Echos whenever my Solar Cam Pan detects a person. This is with a Wyze Cam Unlimited subscription, and I am not using Alexa Plus.

  • I have my Solar Cam Pan in the Wyze app set to record all Smart Detection Events on the Customize Recordings screen, and Notifications are off. In the Pan Controls setting, Track Person is enabled.
  • In the Amazon Alexa app, within that Solar Cam Pan’s Settings, I have Person Detection Announcements enabled under Camera Events, and both of my Echos are selected for Announcement Devices. Under General, I have Enabled toggled on.

I don’t have any Cam v3s for comparison, so I can’t really comment on that, and I’m not sure if your issue is with phone notifications or Echo announcements, but I wanted to share what works for me in case your problem is the latter.

I was not aware of the settings you described in Alexa for the person and package notifications. Unfortunately when I try to enable those for my Wyze cam(s) I get an error saying it could be enabled. Any experience with this?

Are you using a Wyze subscription? If you’re not, then enabling those options in Alexa may not be possible. I’m not 100% certain about that, but that’s my guess. Since you mentioned Alexa Plus in an earlier post, I don’t know if that has any effect, either. I’m not using Alexa Plus, and it’s unclear from your previous posts whether or not you are.

I do like some things about Alexa and the Echos I use, but I have longer experience with Google Home, for whatever that’s worth. I know that there are some things I can enable in Google Home where the app actually lets me flip a toggle but I don’t experience that feature unless I have an active Wyze subscription on that device. For instance, before I ever started using a Wyze subscription, I could see in the Google Home app settings for my Video Doorbell v2 that there’s a Voice notifications  toggle that I can actually turn on (i.e., the control itself is not disabled), but it doesn’t result in any different behavior from that device in the Google Home environment until a subscription is attached. Now that I’m using Cam Unlimited, my Google Home speakers will let me know if my doorbell sees a person.

You are correct about Alexa not recognizing Wyze events for cams if you are not enrolled in a Wyze subscription. That data is captured by Alexa from Wyze’s AWS servers.

Alexa+ is not free if memory serves me correctly. It is a perk if you are an Amazon Prime member. I am and all of my Alexa activity was transitioned to Alexa+ without interruption. I am not aware that existing services were affected if not subscribed to Alexa+ but future services could be. I’ll have to look into it from the Amazon roll-out.

Thank you, I turned off notifications and Shazam I am getting notifications from Alexa.

I’m still puzzled by what you’ve written. What notifications did you disable? Are you now receiving notifications on your phone or voice announcements from Alexa on Echo devices or something else? Is this working as you expect it to now?

You’re welcome…? :man_shrugging:

I agree, still puzzled. Where were notifications turned off? I have push notifications on in the Wyze app and get phone and echo voice notifications from Alexa. Would be nice to know exactly where the settings are in-place on Wyze app and on Alexa. Still have not seen confirmation that @1sirgaines has a Wyze subscription.

Yeah, I think the…

…is a good sign—or at least that’s how I’m interpreting it—but I’m still not entirely clear on the original problem or whether it was solved. I think phone notifications are being conflated with Echo voice announcements, but confirmation and clarification about the problem situation and solution could be helpful for other users who might read this topic.

Circling back on the issue of Alexa+ from Amazon, it is only a free service if you have Amazon Prime. Otherwise, it is a monthly or annually paid fee for service.

Yes that tracks with my experience. I have Prime and it shows Alexa+ is active.
