Why would you need to open ports?

Jimmycurk, I am not having a problem setting static ip addresses with my router. I think you misread my message. I was saying It is real simple to do that. I can even do it on my phone or tablet with their app.

I am not having any luck with Alexa discovering my cameras (already up and running). Alexa is looks for pairable Wyze devices on the same wifi network, is that right? And presumably only Wyze devices belonging to the Wyze account that’s linked in the Alexa app.

It doesn’t need to be the same wifi network but the Wyze devices do need to be associated with the Wyze account linked in the Alexa app. Is the Wyze account linked to the Alexa app the same account the devices were registered on? Or are the Wyze devices registered on one Wyze account, then shared to a second Wyze account, and that second Wyze account is the one linked to the Alexa app?
Did you have issues registering the device in the Wyze app?

You have to go into this thinking you must be doing something wrong. These things just register themselves. IF you don’t have that attitude, you will have problems solving this issue.

Thanks @john_follett I think it just took more time than I expected. I closed the app and went to do something else. Later when I was on my Fire tablet I noticed the cameras (both shared with me and owned by me) listed under Devices > Cameras.

However, I’m now having the issue where while I can view live streaming from every camera using my Echo Show 5, I cannot view live streams for any cameras via the Alexa app on either my Android phone or my Fire HD tablet. In the Alexa app, all the V3 cameras have “Live view not supported”. Doesn’t say that for V2 cams, but when I click on one I get blue progress dots and nothing ever loads successfully.

i don’t know why Live view is not supported , but my V2 cameras do work for live view with alexa app for me.
this is not just for wyze cameras, 4 different brands of my cameras say the same thing the only ones that do work are the wyze v2s

Is this because V3s don’t have WebRTC yet, and V2s with current firmware do?

Almost certainly. The weird thing is my V2s with quite old firmware were working fine with the Win10 Alexa app for a short time. So WebRTC isn’t / wasn’t a hard requirement.

I think only the v2 and cam pan work in the Alexa app. I cannot view my v3 in there either. I also cannot see my Blink cameras in the Alexa app and Blink is an Amazon product.
Because you are seeing a long wait time when trying to view your v2 and with the other issue you had during device discovery, you may need to clear your app cache on your device.

This helps me understand the pattern. It makes sense now, although there is still one v2 cam that can’t be viewed live in the Alexa app while the others can. I’ll try clearing the cache. Thanks!

Sort of…But Alexa wants you to pay money for it. It’s called Alexa Guard Plus

But Wyze is still waiting on Alexa to finish the integration. They said this last year:

Guard Plus works with supported alarm systems from Ring, Scout Alarm, and ADT.š And coming next year, Guard Plus will work with alarm systems from Abode, Resideo, A3 Smart Home, and Wyze.

And it still hasn’t been implemented this year, so I guess now they’re pushing it off until at least 2023, and who knows how that’s going to go since Amazon just fired 10K Alexa Employees. They might be scrambling just to keep Alexa afloat at the moment.

I don’t think Alexa will go away, it will just have progress slowed.

Amazon is one of the top Matter entities. I think Matter will help a lot.

There probably won’t be a big need to go anywhere.

Worst case scenario, I’m a huge fan of Home Assistant (not talking about Google, which kind of sucks for IoT routines). But Home Assistant is a little complicated for the average person.

Pardon my ignorance, but I was wondering if this is possible? I want my Wyze v3, whenever it detects a person at night to turn a Kasa bulb for 15 minutes only.

This is possible, you need to make sure both are available in Alexa. then set a routine as follows:

Obviously, the Camera Name will be yours and the Light to turn on is your lights. My says Anytime, but you can set a time for this as well, so what ever start and end time you would like this routine to be added

, my camera is named exactly as yours. Do I need Echo Dot to be on, or the app will trigger what needs to be triggered?

Thanks,

No, you don’t even need to own an Alexa device to do that.

Thanks

I have similar routines.
A camera in the garage turns on a light when it detects a person.
When the back door camera detects a person Alexa announces it.

The strange this is, it I try to edit these routines now Alexa claims they won’t work because I need to Update my Cloud Cam subscription. I have Cam Plus Lite and both routines still work despite Alexa saying they don’t.
