Having given this some more thought, I think this kind of feature (if possible) would work better as an Action in Rules. Note that what I would want the Rule Action to accomplish is still a simulation of an actual Doorbell button press, not merely adding back the “Ring” Action that used to be present in the app for certain cameras (Cam OG and Cam Pan v3).
I want this to be a Rule Action so that I can create a Shortcut type Rule to trigger it, which would give such a feature some flexibility:
- Such a Shortcut could appear in the strip near the top of the app’s main screen and essentially act as a Doorbell button.
- The same Shortcut could be assigned via the Wyze Watch’s settings in the app so that a Doorbell button press could be triggered directly from the Watch.
- This could be eminently useful in troubleshooting situations, as when tweaking settings and between resets while trying to turn off the “Cameras as Chime” feature on one of my Cam Pan v3s.
- Having such an Action available for other Rule types (like Device & Service Trigger) could allow for other use cases, such as making the Doorbell ring whenever any configured camera detects motion, a person, etc., and I imagine the creative folk within the Wyze user community could probably suggest a number of other uses for such a feature, as well.
