I just got a doorbell v2 and put it on a honestly farmstand I built so if someone needs help, they can connect to me.
I have it connected to solar and a battery (12 volt to 24 volt converter to power it), everything works fine on the camera side and motion.
But when you press the button, I don’t get the notification on my phone. Only if someone walks up to it. I have looked everywhere, but can’t find anything. I would love to have it ring a chime in our house, but I really need it to at the bare minimum to let me know on my phone that someone pressed the button…
Any suggestions or advice on what to do? I may end up having to switching to a pro or v1.
Notifications have been an ongoing issue with Video Doorbell v2, as described in multiple topics on the Forum. Wyze has released several firmware updates for that model this year, but the issue reportedly hasn’t been resolved for everyone, and it’s why some of us who participate in the Forum have chosen to remain on the firmware version that was released back in January.
If you have an adequate Wi-Fi signal out to your stand that provides decent connectivity between there and your house (that’s the impression I’m getting from your post), then you potentially have options for hearing a chime or some other notification sound in your home, but that depends on what other smart home stuff you have available:
If you have a Wyze Cam OG, Cam OG Telephoto, or Cam Pan v3, you can use the “Cameras as Chime” setting essentially to turn those into accessory doorbell chimes; however, this feature is somewhat flaky (and I believe that’s why Wyze recently edited the Help Center article I linked , because it used to say that they plan to extend it to Cam v3 “soon”, but now the language is more vague), and I’d also note that iOS users have been reporting errors when they try to enable that feature. (I see that you tagged this post with iphone-ipad, though your profile indicates that you use Android.)
If you’re using smart speakers in a Google Home or Amazon Alexa environment, then those can be used as additional sources for sound notifications and/or even stream video from the doorbell onto a smart screen (e.g., a Home/Nest Hub display or Chromecast).
If you have Wyze smart lighting devices (Bulb Color, Light Strip, etc.), you could use a Device & Service Trigger Rule where a doorbell button press initiaties the Rule and causes a light to turn on, change color, or blink (for example). That wouldn’t make a chime sound, but it could provide a visual cue of a doorbell activation.
I don’t have any experience with the Video Doorbell Pro, and I realize it’s more expensive than Video Doorbell v2, but since it’s factory-ready as a battery-powered option, that might’ve been my initial inclination; however, it seems like you’ve already figured out a way to power a wired camera out there, so that’s pretty cool. For your use case, I’m kind of wondering why you don’t just post a sign with a number to call if someone needs help, though I understand why you might not expect everyone who stops at the stand to have a mobile phone and/or why you might not want to put your number out there.
As far as how I’m doing it, it’s a farm stand that’s at the road. I’m using a ubiquiti network and extended the wifi out to it, I’m running solar to power the fan, ubiquiti camera, refrigerator, speaker (for soft music) and the doorbell. The system is 12 volt, so I got a 12volt to 24 volt converter and that’s powering the doorbell. See pictures for more info…
You’re welcome, and thanks for sharing the photos (I wasn’t seeing those initially but now see the edit). That sounds (and looks) like a pretty cool setup. I especially like the additions of the fan and music. It looks like a lot of effort went into making this a welcoming place for people who want to stop at your stand. That is really awesome!
I hope you find a solution that works for you. Maybe someone else will come along with better ideas.
The v1 should allow me to at least use the chime and it seemed to work before on our house (before I upgraded to the ubiquiti doorbell for our house). So I’m going to hook it up now, hence the wire showing…
As far as my phone number, I thought about that, but since everything else is digital, I want to have that as an option. My number is on the board, but how many people read?
Also, 1/2 everything I make goes to local charities.
Ok, I just put the v1 up. But now I’m not getting notifications that the bell was pushed like I did before? Has that changed also? I get a basic notification that it’s detected motion, but not the push…
Ooh, I have no idea about v1 Doorbell notifications. I don’t have any experience with that one. Are you at least getting the chime to sound in the house like you wanted? I understand that that’s only part of the solution and that you may not always be within earshot of a chime (which is probably why you want to use a video doorbell for two-way communication with the phone).
Also, thanks for the , though I really think you provided your own solution on this one.
It’s something about android or my phone. My iPad rings… So I’m going to keep playing with it…
As far as the chime, works like a charm. Just wish I knew about v2 before I bought it… Good thing I only spent $20 for it new. I’ll add it to all my other wyze products that I no longer use.
I have a whole box of wyze stuff I don’t use anymore.
I did the check because of your details. Thank you for your help.
