Am I missing something? If I go into Playback on my V2 and V3 cameras and zoom in then scroll through the timeline, I stayed zoomed in on the area of concern.
On my V4 camera, I lose the zoomed in area as soon as I scroll on the timeline.
Why would my V4 camera reset the zoomed in area when I to view an area through time?
Do you mean playing back from the SD recording playback time line? I just tested two of my V4, taped the time line zoomed into an area and went through 10 hours of the time line and it stayed zoomed in, both cams.
Yes that’s what I mean. Seems my V4 cameras will not stayed zoomed in when I scroll through the timelime as you describe. ???
Since @Antonius uses iOS, I wanted to see if I could replicate the issue on Android, but I cannot. Using the current production version (3.4.0.640) of the Wyze app and a Cam v4 on current production firmware, I can zoom in on the microSD recording timeline and scroll it, and the timeline remains at that zoom level while I’m scrolling. It seems to be working as expected for me. 
I think they mean they zoom in on the video, but then when scrolling the video zooms back out (not the timeline itself), but not positive.
Just tested my v4 on Android and I see the same thing, the video zooms out when you scroll on the timeline. Does the same thing in both portrait and landscape orientation, and also does it if using the 30 second skips or forward/back arrows. Honestly this isn’t something I normally do so I’m not sure if it has always been like that or not. My Panv3s and OGs stay zoomed in when doing the same thing.
Ah, could be. I interpreted it as zooming the timeline itself, not the video image. I think what you’re saying makes more sense, and I can confirm your experience (and this zooming out behavior) with Cam v4 vs. remaining zoomed in—in the video playback image—on a Cam OG and Cam Pan v3 (the non-flaky one) that I just tested.
Like you, I don’t know if it’s always been this way or if it’s new behavior for Cam v4.

Looks like it is the new app version that is causing this. I just tested my v4 on iOS app version 3.3.5 (2) and the view stays zoomed in while I scroll through the timeline. Never used the feature and I don’t see it as a deal breaker for my personal use.
Maybe it’s another one of those Android-specific “features”.
You might be right. I just updated the app to iOS 3.4.0 (11) the latest and greatest and the zoom stays zoomed in. Time to switch to iOS 
I’m seeing the same issue. The zoomed in video zooms back out if I move the timeline on SD card playback.
