You use website cookies, so why dont they remember anything

Why must I be reminded every time I use the website live view that the best experience is to use Google Chrome? It’s not, and even more annoying, a massive popup asking me to sign up to search.
Can you please use the damn cookies for something useful? You know, remember I don’t want to sign up to search, and I don’t want to use Chrome.

I would honestly use the web portal A LOT more if I knew it would just load up without me having to login in everytime. So I would totally support this.

I am guessing they won’t allow it on the web portal though.

I know it sounds almost ridiculous because they do allow this with the app, so what’s the difference, right? Someone could open our phone app and see a live stream without using our Wyze password, so why are they enforcing this on the browser? Why not give us the same option to stay logged in on the web portal.

I can’t speak for Wyze, of course (I don’t expect they will be answering us here), but I wouldn’t be surprised if the rationales are related to the following:

  • Browsers are more vulnerable to various security threats, so requiring frequent logins ensures only authorized users can access the camera feed.
  • Maintaining a persistent login session in a browser is more complex and risk-prone compared to a mobile app. Requiring login for each session can prevent unauthorized access if the browser is left open or unattended.
  • Some session management security measures require session tokens stored in cookies to be cleared upon every reboot, which cause websites to think it’s a new device that needs a new session cookie. I have a lot of work portals that will remember me up until I turn my computer off, then it claims I’m using a new device again. I would bet Wyze is doing this too. Leaving your computer on could potentially resolve some of your frustrations.
  • Some websites use other browser fingerprinting as security measures, so dynamic IP address changes or a number of other things could make it be extra cautious and require more logins.
  • Some browser extension can interfere with cookies, session management, browser fingerprinting, forcing more logins.

But I’m sure it’s just Wyze being extra cautious because of how people feel about their camera streams. With phones, people generally have them near them all the time and have lock screens. A lot of people don’t do that with computers (though it is quite possible to do the same as phones), so they’re probably doing this to reduce allegations of lax security efforts. Allowing extra convenience may not be worth the potential liability or litigation to prove they shouldn’t be blamed for someone choosing to let their cameras stay open to anyone nearby.

But who knows. I don’t think they will change and I don’t think we will get answer, but if they were willing to change it, I would support it because I don’t like logging in either. I have a password on my computer, so I’m the only one who would ever be accessing it, so please make my life more convenient and give me the option to stay logged in. I would honestly use the web portal A LOT more if I knew it would just load up without me having to login in everytime.

Oh well, we can hope. The only way it will ever happen is if people ASK for it like you just did, so thanks for posting. I would totally be in favor and I would totally use it way more often.
