Wyzecam 3 Device Offline Issues?

Have a wyzecam 3 that I bought and have it turned on in my apartment when I’m not there. I have been using the wyzecam app on iphone to check it and notice several times, it had that message device offline and I could not turn it back on. Few days later, I recall when I check on the wyze app, it would then work. I haven’t been in that apartment in a while but I know occasionally, there is a power outage or internet might go out. But when the power and internet comes back on, then it’s back to normal. But I have no idea how it’s been the last few times since I haven’t been in that apartment in a bit.

Recently, this happened yet again. Now I’m not sure if the power is out or not or if the internet is out. However, someone said I could actually check the footage of the camera when the power comes back on. Is that true? But to do that, I need to be physically in that apartment where the camera and the microsd card is? I have a 128gb micro sd card in the camera and am on that free wyzecam. I can’t check that offline footage if I"m not there right?

I then just checked the wyzecam app again now and it appears to be working. There is a live stream. If it matters, the wyzecam 3 is connected to the wall outlet in that apartment. I don’t believe my internet was out for 2 days for multiple days when I’m not there to check though. Does anyone here have advice or can tell me why the device was offline for that long? Possible my power and internet is fine but the wyzecam 3 had issues? But it then fixed itself?

The other thing is when I check the wyzecam 3 livestream now, it says Firmware Update Required. There are important updates in the latest firmware. Please update it before using your device. If you have multiple devices, you can update them all at once. Seems to be option to click on that or update now.

The thing is at the moment, I’m in another apartment and there is an old wyzecam 2 there. I am in control of that wyzecam and it has a 32 micro sd card.

Now, should I update now or not? The problem I have with doing this is if I do that… would there be an issue with the wyzecam 3 where I have to manually turn it on or off it there is an update issue? I also should update the old wyzecam 2 where I am at here right? So I assume update the wyzecam 2 separately right as I’m in the location where the wyzecam 2 is at? Then when I get back to the apartment with the wyzecam 3, then update that one? I don’t want to do an update here in this apartment and then the wyzecam 3 in the other apartment doesn’t work and has issues as I can’ turn it on since I’m not there.

Okay so I went to view playback for the wyzecam 3 and I’m able to check the footage when going back several days for now. But is there a way to find out why my wyzecam 3 livestream hasn’t worked for few days? Message showed Device Offline.

The other issue is now when I open wyze app on the iphone, unless I click on the view playback fast or open and close the wyze app few times, it would have that Firmware Update message blocking the livestream view. So do I have to update the firmware now or not? It does seem if I open and close the app, then sometimes, that firmware message won’t show up.

I don’t want an issue where I do an update now from my iphone on the wyzecam app where the wyzecam 3 in my apartment stops working. Advice on all of this?

You don’t have to update, but it’s going to be difficult to keep viewing your camera with the pop-up. How far away is the camera? What are your options if it stops working and you need to go it to fix it? The firmware update SHOULD work, but there are sometimes problems that require a manual flash of the firmware or a power cycle of the camera.

As for being Offline check your WiFi access point. I would move your WiFi or camera closer to each other if possible.

I have all of my v3 cameras with Automatic Updates Off. When I read on this forum the latest firmware is working well then I will update

The camera is not even in the same state as I’m in.

The thing is I would go back there soon. The thing is I don’t want to do an update now where the camera doesn’t work until I go back there.

So best to do that update when there right? The thing is I did the open and closing wyze app and after few times, it seems I could check the livestream without that firmware update required blocking it.

I have no idea if my wifi is out when the wyzecam 3 livestream doesn’t work and it shows that Device Offline message. But i don’t think it’s out for 2 days straight multiple times though in the last few weeks. But is that most likely the reason?

The thing is if it’s the wyzecam 3 camera, well why would it then work after a few days then especially if it would require you to manually turn it on and off? So it most likely is the wifi then? I am not in that apartment now with the wyzecam 3 so I don’t know what is the reason.

I should update the wyzecam 2 in the apartment that I’m in now right? The thing is when you do a firmware update for a specific camera, you should do it when you are where the camera is right? So if you have a wyzecam 2 and 3 in different locations, only do firmware update in the location where you are at the moment? Otherwise, you might have an issue where you have to manually reset that wyzecam and you aren’t there so then the camera would be down until you go back to that location?

I had one problem v3 camera that kept going OffLine. I moved my WiFi access point closer to the problem v3. No more problem with the v3 going OffLine.

If your cameras are in another state, I would consider Smart Plugs to be able to power cycle them remotely.

I’m far from where the wyzecam 3 is now so I can’t tell what is the issue. So that means my wyzecam 3 just goes off and then comes back on days later then? I can’t imagine my wifi is down in that apartment for multiple days multiples times in the last few weeks.

So do not update the firmware while I’m not there right?

What about updating the firmware for wyzecam 2? I’m in an apartment where the wyzecam 2 is located at now. So update the firmware for the wyzecam 2 only now?

You may not be loosing internet from your provider, you may be experiencing WiFi interference from neighbors or something else.

I only update camera firmware when I have physical access to the cameras in case I need to manually flash the firmware because of a problem.

I do not have any v2 cameras so I am not sure which firmware versions are good and which ones should be avoided.

I can say the latest v3 firmware 4.36.13.0416 is working well for me.

Unfortunately too many possible explanations. You could set up a ping monitoring service to see if your router is online or is experiencing frequent disconnects/packet loss. That would require having ping enabled on your WAN (or mapping it to some device on your LAN) but that typically isn’t a big deal to do for a while. Of course if it is disabled and you don’t have remote access, you can’t set that up now.

Next time you’re there, if your router supports it, you could set up a VPN so you can log into the network remotely and see what is going on. See if the cameras are showing up in your router.

Another possible explanation - the wifi radio in your router is going bad, when it gets hot, it stops working. Or your router’s DHCP is freezing up, etc. These routers over time do wear out, the heat eventually starts to crack solder joints and wear out chips and odd things happen. Not saying that is the case for you, but a possibility.

I’m running this on my V2 cameras, which I think is the most recent.

So how do I know what is the cause of these issues if I’m not in the apartment with the wyzecam 3? Only way is if I’m there then?

So this is most likely not the wifi not working right? The thing is the wifi isn’t going to be down a few days several times a month. So that means it is just powered off and then it powers on few days later then? What about wifi goes off and camera goes off. But wifi comes back and then camera turns back on hours or days later then? What is most likely the case?
