Wyze Vacuum connection to guest network

Maybe someone has already figured this out but I could not find it discussed anywhere online. I thought I would post this for anyone who still wants to put their vacuum (IoT) on their guest network to isolate it from their main home network. It should have been more obvious to me but I did spend lots of time and almost bought an expensive commercial router before making this work the way I wanted it to.

For your guest network to work like it should, your attached wifi devices (like IoT stuff) should not be able to see each other on the router. This kept me from being able to set up the vacuum at first because you need to use your phone on wifi for the initial setup and the phone and vacuum could not see each other to connect.

I found an option on my router that let me allow my guest devices to see each other (and unfortunately also my main network for a short period of time). So I selected this option temporarily (required a restart of the router) to go through the vacuum wifi setup on my phone using the same guest network and the setup was successful. Then I unselected the option on my router for the guest devices to see each other (this required another restart of the router) so that they would be isolated again from each other and my main home network.

I checked my attached device list to see the vacuum now using the guest network. I also verified the guest devices could not see my main network to make sure the isolation option was working. The best part is now I can access the vacuum from my phone or iPad by logging in to the Wyze app from anywhere on any network and still see and control the vacuum.

That’s a long story but if you are concerned about the vacuum being on your main home network, this is a workaround that seems to keep it isolated. I don’t think this will prevent someone from “seeing” my home using the vacuum sensors if someone hacked the Waze app or something but at least I think my main home network devices are a little more secure. If someone sees a problem with my assumptions here, please let me know because I would want to move on to another solution.

And by the way, we love the vacuum so far - great product for us!
