Will the better equipment work as a stand alone system? I do not need a monitoring company but the upgraded equipment would be great.
I think is one of the million dollar questions… Would indeed be a welcome if we can just use the new hardware as a standalone self monitoring solution…
But for now, it looks like if you get the monitoring kit, you’'ll have to at least sign up for a monthly plan… however, it does mention that there will be no long term contracts… so maybe you can ditch after one moth of monitoring service… We’ll have to wait and see more faqs develop …
Unfortunately I don’t see any water leak

I would like to believe that Wyze is working on a more comprehensive home solution that will include those items in order to allow for a more robust home automation/security experience.

They’re working on it. The first FAQ they wrote (last in the line of FAQ’s) said:
We will start with home security and expand into protecting your home from threats such as fire and water damage.
It sounds like this will eventually be allowed. For now the new equipment is reserved for those wanting security monitoring since they have a limited supply at launch.
For now, Wyze Sense v2 items, Wyze Home Monitoring Core Kit, and other Wyze Home Monitoring-specific products can only be ordered with a Wyze Home Monitoring plan.
The “For now” indicates it will eventually he opened up for anyone to buy some of the other stuff.
Did the presale not happen? Or did I just miss it?

Yeah, it was brutal reading through every single FAQ just before bed.
I wrote out a list of questions that are not clear or clarified in the FAQ’s, hoping someone from Wyze will answer them like they usually do in the first couple of hours of launch time in the new thread.
I’m pretty sure I’m getting it, but I’d still like some answers on things not clarified in the FAQ’s… 
I don’t keep up on lots of Wyze things. I’ve had 2 cameras for a couple of years but saw an email for $5 off something. Home monitoring by a real security company? Is this better than Ring security? Maybe they question cannot be answered. Is this a good cheap alternative to Ring? Thanks.
TBD… The Wyze Home Monitoring definitely sound like it’ll be a good viable option with a good deal of features… Especially with the notion that it should be a bit more stable/reliable with the new hardware. But of course, only time will tell as to the value…

Everything thing else we have ordered has worked very well for us.
We recently had a break in at the house… wasn’t anything major, just an out building that was robbed. Since then my children have been spooked and every bump is a bad guy.
@carverofchoice The future support for camera feed backup seems grey? The FAQ specifically only mentions sensor events and logs are planned for backup. Unless I missed it elsewhere in the FAQ?
Yeah, that’s in my clarification questions I plan to ask them. They list it in the question, then don’t include that in the answer… So it’s semi-implied as a possibility but not clear
I asked if the sense hub would work with wyze cam outdoor or vise/versa, Gwendolyn’s answer was “not at this time” so my guess is that could mean these hubs are more capable and Wyze is still developing or holding out to sustain product value.
The annual amount is a no-brainer. $60 total for the whole year upfront with free core starter kit. OR:
$55 for the core starter kit + first month of HMS.
Why not pay $5 more for a whole year?

The “Confirm Your System” section is a little buggy…It looks like someone used the numerical “double” for the Wyze Cams section instead of a more appropriate currency calculation. since adding 5 V3’s does this:

Am I able to purchase the Starter Kit and then cancel the monthly billing to have a self monitored experience? It seems to be doable, right?
It’s hard to know what will and won’t work when you disable the subscription, but for just $5 more you get everything for a whole year anyway.
It appears what you CAN do is set it to “Test Mode” and then everything will work as normal, but never involve Noonlight unless you press the emergency button. Problem solved.
