Wyze to launch home monitoring and security service

The question is how important does it become when users get tired of chasing their phone to see the pictures and go to something like simplysafe ext.

Except that 96% of Americans now have cellphones, but only 51% of households even have a computer anymore. Plus the majority of those who have cellphones keep them on them 24/7. They don’t have to go “chasing their phone” because most keep it with them, and certainly more often than they are carrying around a computer. Most would have to go “chasing their computer” if something happens, while with their cell phone, it’s always there at a glance.

Wyze and other companies are simply catering to the market. The majority of the market says people prefer to use their cell phones, and only smaller niche markets use computers for these things anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a computer guy myself, and I really want everything accessible on my computer too. I want it so much, that I actually run an emulator (Bluestacks) so I can do everything on my computer. Another solution is to switch to Apple, then you can use everything on Mac laptops, etc.

I recently read an article that Microsoft was possibly moving toward being able to support android apps and stores through Windows since the Windows app store is basically a failure. I didn’t get too far into the details. but maybe the cross-platform problem will be moot soon all on it’s own.

For now, I don’t blame Wyze and others for not doing computer support…half of households don’t even have computers, and even then it is very few who use it, whereas EVERYONE has their own cell phone and most have it on them 24/7. Businesses cater to the market, and we’re unfortunately in the small minority compared to mobile device preference. If you really need it, go install Bluestacks or another emulator and you’ll have it all on your computer too.

Well the old saying is money talks and [Mod Edit] walks so I guess we’ll see which one they choose

Read about it thru the app discover link a few days ago, really amazing watching Wyze bringing out so many excellent offerings to the users.

From the email sent today, looks like pre order will start tomorrow! :eyes: Wyze Hub Ideas - #68 by davidnestico2001

Because I’m not expecting anything to improve, I’m anticipating the pre-order to be US-only … and since Wyze never puts in small-print in the emails that that’s the case, nor just not send an email to non-US addresses … that means I have useless $5 code.
Msg me if anyone wants it.

It will defenitley be US only, at least until 2021. But if you uses a reship you can use the code we got and ship it to a different country from wyze. Check out shipitto, I use it for wyze products until they launch in canada in 2021.

What time tomorrow does the email say it is launching at? The countdown in my email is messed up again. Not sure why the countdown images don’t work right for me in Wyze emails, but can anyone say what time it’s all at? I’m very confident I’m ordering one.

From what I see the email does not say when tomorrow it is launching and the timer seems to be when the code expires

I didn’t see a time either hmmm…guess we will have to be on our toes tomorrow.

:clock12: :clock1: :clock2: :clock3:

It did say to look for tomorrow’s email, so I am guessing at some point early tomorrow another email will arrive with more info.

Makes sense. Thanks for checking.

So, I got 2 codes for $5 off…one was sent because “You asked to be informed about Wyze Home Monitoring and when it launches” and the second one was sent for being “one of our Cam Plus members,

I’m guessing they aren’t stackable, but I’m going to check first. Might give someone a free code tomorrow (will check with family first). Going through my recent Wyze emails to look for all the other codes I’ve been issued recently, some of which claim they should be stackable (hoping so).

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope they will start offering the new V2 sensors separately tomorrow too, because I need a bunch, and the email makes it look like the security package only includes 2 contact and one motion (aka “sense entry”), and I need way more than that! Also, I will need 2 keypads (one for the front, and one for the back that leads to the garage). One is probably not enough!

I will need the same thing at least 2 keypads and many, many sensors lol

I wish they included something in this picture so we’d have a frame of reference on the size of these:

I guess if those 5 devices are included in each order, I might order 2 sets of them if that’s allowed (they might require subscriptions with each one, and I’d only want 1 subscription of course)…

Definitely a point to check on before I order, if they require that I wonder if they would then limit it to 1 system

The one thing that makes me not be too worried about it is they said this in an email about it last month:

So they indicate that they aren’t going to require lengthy contracts like others do…so maybe I could get 2 but only use a subscription on one of them.

Maybe. I think they just mean you pay month to month. And last I saw the subscription was a requirement.

No contract to stop you from canceling the second subscription after month 1 though  Then you have extras of all the devices, and just add those under the first subscription, right?

I guess it partially depends how much the subscription is. Also, if I can buy extra devices separately (contact/motion sensors, another keypad), then it’s a moot issue.

Going to be somewhat upset if the sensors all require the subscription though…I mean, I might have the subscription anyway…but it would be somewhat janky to force a subscription for the sensors to work at all since they won’t even allow us the option to buy the V1 sensors anymore.

it appears the FAQ has been posted, as they always post the FAQ’s really early… https://wyzelabs.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/sections/360011048512-Home-Monitoring-FAQ

Here are my current favorite (notable) selections from the FAQ’s:

Shipping date unknown, probably mid-February.

For now, to order extra sensor (motion or contact) devices we have to have the core starter kit already and the monitoring service subscription.

For now, Wyze Sense v2 items, Wyze Home Monitoring Core Kit, and other Wyze Home Monitoring-specific products can only be ordered with a Wyze Home Monitoring plan.

If you try to remove the Wyze Home Monitoring service or Core Starter Kit from your cart, your cart will clear and you will have to start over again.

I might even go straight to the yearly subscription:

If you choose to pay annually, you will get the entire Starter Core Kit for free.

Even more, we will refund the price of the Starter Core Kit if you switch from a monthly plan to an annual plan.

The hub will have backup storage for events, and logs in the future (not at launch); and it is ambiguous whether it will eventually allow backing up camera feeds to the hubs.

Can’t be shared with a spouse or others at launch, but they will “support role-based sharing” in the future.

Sensor events keep working (logging) without power:

Although we don’t support cellular backup, the Sense Hub has a battery backup in the case of a power outage. If your internet connection drops, Wyze Home Monitoring Service will still work locally.

You do have to specifically select a cam to be a security cam or not (you can have some as a security cam and some not). Limited to 5 cams total for now (the rest will still work, but won’t be part of the HMS section). 5 cam limit is to ensure the bandwidth is not overloaded when streaming too many cams simultaneously (may change this).

Lock and Video Doorbell will be integrated soon after launch, but not immediately.

There is a contradiction about whether V1 sensors work with this or not. The FAQ’s say no, the HMS page says yes:

VS:

So, one announcement says V1’s are not compatible, and the other page says they are. Which one is true? I also noticed V1’s are no longer listed under the “Will work With” section of the HMS page. The AMA also said the V1’s would connect to the V2 hub…so maybe they just mean the V1’s will work with the hub, but can’t be added to the HMS security tab as a security device? I hope that’s what they meant, rather than changing their minds about letting V1’s connect to the hub at all…I still have a ton of V1’s I’d like to switch over to the hub even if they don’t run as a HMS security device.

You cannot set schedules for notifications from the system. It’s only based on you setting disarmed, home, or away mode.

There is a “Test Mode” that allows you to “practice” using the system without Noonlight being alerted.

In Test Mode, all hardware and software components will work as designed except that we will disconnect your system from the monitoring center.

I am thinking of leaving my system in “Test Mode” permanently, and then if there is a real problem then I can hit the emergency button to call dispatch. Problem solved, no false alarm fees or problems.

HMS Includes 1 Cam Plus license.

“Security cam” events cannot trigger the alarm, only sensors can do that. Cams can trigger an “alert.”

Move sensors out of the HMS system if you don’t want them triggering alarms:

Signals from a sensor that has been added to your Home Monitoring profile will feed to the monitoring system regardless of any settings made from the sensor page or Rules. For example, even if you turn off the notifications for an Entry sensor assigned to Away mode, it can still send an alarm when triggered.

We will start with home security and expand into protecting your home from threats such as fire and water damage.
