I received my Wyze Scale Ultra 11-1-24. Amazon had 1 day delivery.
1st impressions:
Packaging was top of the line. It was glossy, multiple colors, attractive. On opening the scale is enclosed in a custom foam enclosure. Well protected. Included in package were the scale, batteries and quick start guide.
Initial setup was seamless. Within seconds the app found the scale and I was presented with my wifi choices. Once again it only took seconds to configure the wifi. It took longer to unbox the scale and insert the batteries than it took to setup the scale.
In use operation.
Stepping on the scale. Within a second or so the scale comes alive and begins showing weight. It stabilizes within 5 seconds or so then shows the other parameters (which I don’t care about)
What the app shows. The app gets the scale data almost immediately. This compared to my original WHSCL1, that may take a few seconds (bluetooth).
New features. When selecting the scale configuration the 1st item is new to my wyze cameras. “Reset wifi”. You are allowed to change the wifi SSID. This is a nice addition to the feature set.
There are also new additions to the “Device Info” screen.
My belief is Wyze it looking seriously at connection issues. The added parameters should help immensely when trouble shooting. Question to early Doorbell Duo users. Are you seeing the same new parameters for signal strength, network latency and wifi reset?
Accuracy:
It passes. My WHSCL1 and Wyze Scale Ultra are within 2 tenths of a lb of each other.
Stepping on the new scale repeatedly I saw about 3 tenths of a pound variation.
Caveats:
There are a few rough edges.
You get to chose your avatar. The UI is a bit confusing. You are given a choice of a wyze avatar or a selection of 10 or so other avatars. The screen is a bit confusing as I found it will only show your initials if the wyze avatar is selected. Probably makes their job easier as they don’t have to worry about your initials not showing.
I am speculating on this one. I believe the scale determines who is on the scale by weight or if the app is open whose profile is selected. I added a second user and the app wasn’t happy. It complained that someone else had the same weight and I needed to correct that. Then the second user seemed limited to what screens were displayed. I deleted the second user and everything went back to normal. Hmmm. Save this one for further testing. There is an option in the app that will only allow the scale to update if the app is open to the selected user.
Someone on the forum asked about Automations. I did a cursory look and could find none for the scale.
In the app, at highest level, there is a selection for Account > Firmware Update. In this screen there is no listing for the new scale. I have checked multiple times–nada. I’ll save this for a later date.
Conclusion:
I am pleased with what I am seeing, especially the wifi reset, the added wifi parameters, the ease of installation, the accuracy.
Now for the impossible. The pet detection wants me to hold my 80lb pity and step on the scale. Not going to happen🤗.
More to come at a later date.
