I’ve been an early adopter and long‑time supporter of Wyze, but my recent experience has really shaken my confidence in the brand.
My Wyze Outdoor Cam Pro died barely a little over a year in, right after the warranty expired. No drops, no damage, no misuse, it simply stopped powering on. For a device marketed as outdoor‑ready, that’s unacceptable. I also had a Wyze Outdoor Plug fail, so this isn’t an isolated case. It’s starting to feel like a pattern of poor durability.
Wyze’s response didn’t help. They offered a measly $20 store credit, which doesn’t even come close to replacing the product or acknowledging the early failure. After years of buying into their ecosystem, that felt dismissive.
I used to recommend Wyze to friends and family, but lately the reliability just isn’t there. The old saying “you get what you pay for” seems to be proving true with their outdoor hardware. Between the short lifespan, inconsistent quality, and weak support, I’ll be looking at other brands for future purchases.
Wyze had a great thing going, but the trust just isn’t there anymore.
Other than that one cam (and a plug in the past), have you had other failures or reliability issues? I get your frustration, but one failed device doesn’t say a company’s overall quality has deteriorated or that there is a chronic issue.
I have 7 wired cams that have been running 24x7 (plus two that get used as needed) for years, exposed to rain, snow, sun, etc.
See if they’ll come up on their offer. Maybe you can get $30 or $40 which would be more than half the replacement cost.
Yes. I have camera’s that wont record to SD cards anymore. Replaced two flood lights couple years old and out of warranty, one for recording issues and can’t recall the issue with the other one.
Odd, very different experience from what I’ve had, maybe the models I’m using are just more robust. For the ones that won’t record to SD, have you tried them since the new firmwares and app were released a few days ago? Those address some of the SD issues that people had been having.
As far as the rest, all I can think is the BCP and the flood lights have more spots water can get in, and also more “moving parts” - battery in the BCP, lights and heat on the floodlights, etc. I haven’t used either product, I have seen some complaints in here about the floodlights, but the BCP seems to be pretty reliable for most people.
