I’ve been using these cams since the beginning. And some will last a year, one actually lasted 2 years. But generally they just quit working.
Are they made to just die so it keeps them in business?
The latest one the pan cam 3 one month after it’s warranty it wouldn’t connect. Support managed to get it working again. Then it said it needed a firmware update attempted to install three times and each time errored out and that’s when it completely quit working.
Then I email them back saying hey what’s going on why don’t you replace this with one that works and they say sorry it’s past the one year mark.
The Support is mediocre and almost impossible to speak with somebody until you figure out where to actually chat with someone.
I would gladly pay double the price and have a camera that works without me troubleshooting several times a year when they quit working.
I refuse to buy any more of these. Are there any other brands out there that might cost more but more reliable?
I don’t know why some people have good luck and others have bad luck. I’m guessing placement/environment matters a lot, but I have never had issues with Wyze hardware and have been adding cams of all kinds for years.
I don’t think any company makes a non-enclosed pan camera that lasts many years outdoors… moving parts + outdoors = short life. But for non-pan cams, Wyze seems to last as long or longer than the other brands I use.
Good luck on your search. Since this is a Wyze forum, you might have better luck finding suggestions for alternates elsewhere.
Don’t you think if they wanted to make more money it would be easier to raise prices? Wyze has been among the absolute best pricing in the industry for years, without giving up much.
Sorry, why do you think you get a 13+ month warranty when every other customer gets 12? You wanted a free camera that they didn’t owe you and they said “sorry, no” and you’re mad for some reason?
Do you find that most companies selling the absolute cheapest product in their category also offers great, easy to access support? I have a Nest cam having issues and pay more to Google for the service than Wyze and Google is huge… and they have fewer options to reach a person. At least at Wyze, you CAN… and all you have to do is find the chat button, which isn’t really hard if you’ve used online support with any other company before.
I have multiple brands. The only cameras I have never had problems with didn’t cost 2x more, they cost 20x more (and they have no “smart” features, so they’re nowhere near as useful). Perhaps recalibrating expectations (for example, not expecting special treatment longer warranties or perfection) would result in a better experience with your next low-end consumer gadget purchase.
Me either, I have a Panv3 that is going on 2 years, in direct rain and hot afternoon sun, thing is still going strong with original endurance SD card and never once have I formatted or factory reset it.
Honestly I’m amazed the motors haven’t died, the street is pretty busy and it follows every car that goes by.
I have multiple Panv3s, OGs, and a v4, all pretty much problem free with the exception of the occasional firmware or app bug.
Maybe because I have a life beyond Wyze cam forum. I have many other devices with apps and none other require the amount of attention as these do. Calm down my friend
I haven’t seen a failure yet from a Cam or µSD Card since starting in 2019, but then all of my cams are inside a weather controlled environment. Definitely V2s have been here since 2019. Not sure when I got my first V3. The only thing that might affect my cams, in a harmful way. might be from exposure to the sun. Three cams are on a UPS. (No motor cams.)
I can also buy legitimately about 8-10 Wyze cameras for the same cost as one 4k Reolink. The most expensive Wyze product I own is under $150 by far; the cheapest Reolink I have had good experience with was almost $300.
Personally, I don’t see the comparison as very useful unless you’re the oddball who doesn’t care about what something costs and somehow are still using Wyze
I bet they cost more than $20-$30 and do much less than the Wyze cams, and often not 24x7
If you don’t want to hear people’s responses to what you posted, why did you post? If you wanted an echo chamber of people agreeing with you, a forum doesn’t seem like the best outlet
Good thing emojis are free or that post would cost as much as two Reolink 4k cameras
Reolink have their purpose, but are not really in the same category as Wyze. The pricepoint for equivalent specs is not even close, even if you get some great deal by searching constantly.
I expect an expensive product to perform well. I expect less from a product that is many times less expensive. Perhaps expectations are still the issue here for people comparing Wyze to anything other than the other low-end subscription-required easy setup cameras.
