What is your evidence?
I have every Wyze cam model and the SD cards are working on all of them.
Do you have proof of this? If not, as someone currently working through some potential defamation litigation against the other side, I would strongly recommend you not post something like this anywhere, stating something as FACT instead of as an opinion if you don’t have proof of such a conspiracy.
I will say that I have over 60 Wyze cams, and ~ >90% are out of warranty. Most of them since 2020. I have used every camera model since the launch date and none have died on me. They haven’t sabotaged a single one of any of the camera models on me, so I can only say that this isn’t my experience, though I am sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience.
I have bought a lot of Wyze stuff through Wyze’s official TikTok store and they have ALWAYS been brand new. Keep in mind that TikTok is a “Marketplace” just like Amazon and eBay, etc. You may have bought something from a 3rd party person selling something from their basement instead of from the official Wyze store. That happens. Warranties are only eligible when you buy from an AUTHORIZED Wyze store or partner, not from a random person on TikTok or eBay. Make sure you order directly from their official store.
I like Tapo. I have some. They are alright. I wouldn’t say they are “better” than Wyze though. There are definitely some differences. Some I like and some I don’t. I also visit their forums and I see nearly identical complaints from users in their forums that we see in here about Wyze too. They are a decent alternative, but they also have a lot of issues. They are also a Chinese company, which effectively means that there is no such thing as privacy. All Chinese companies are legally required to allow the CCP secret access to any of their systems at any time without ever even telling anyone. That is a tough pill to swallow sometimes knowing that is something they must always comply with no matter what other reassurances they might give someone…China must always have on-demand full remote access to all their devices. That’s not necessarily a deal breaker for me though, as evidenced by the fact that I have some Tapo cams (and lots of other TP-Link smarthome products), but it does make me more careful in WHERE I allow Chinese owned camera brands to be placed. A lot could also be said about their severe security issues that almost got the entire company banned from the USA recently (it seems that got calmed down with some bribes lobbying help.
I have cameras from like 6 other companies, and they all have pros and cons. Basically all of them have forums of users posting similar complaints, especially when customer service doesn’t replace an out of warranty device. Most are pretty similar in all these ways. I like and dislike them all in different ways.
Personally, if I was going to ditch Wyze for a Chinese-based company, it would probably be for Reolink instead of TPLink, mostly because I like the full “Works with Home Assistant” level integration from them on the newer cams. That is the biggest temptation for me. They also have AWESOME edge AI detections on their newer cams. Lots of pros. Though they are significantly more expensive, and Wyze is adding RTSP to their cams lately which helps provide the main thing I want from them, so I haven’t been tempted enough to ditch my 60+ Wyze cams which have been working great.
I’m sorry to hear you had 26 cams that all crashed. That sounds like maybe there was a power surge or something abnormal. I have had a camera go offline here and there in the past, but on the rare occasion that has happened, I have been able to do a firmware flash to restore functionality. If you haven’t tried that, you might want to look into it. A firmware flash can almost always restore a camera’s functionality unless it was fried by something like a power surge (particularly if using a 3rd party adapter or cord). If multiple cameras died all at once I lean toward thinking either a power surge or network issue is involved because cameras don’t even all do firmware updates at the same time. That indicates there was an external force at play here. Even if you don’t intend to keep your Wyze cams, if you try a firmware flash and restore them to functionality, you might be able to sell them all. Wyze cams actually hold their value really well when resold on places like eBay, so you may be able to at least use that money toward buying more Tapo cams.
Either way, best of luck. Tapo is a great alternative in general. I really like using them as a redundancy backup for some of my Wyze cams. I think you’ll likely enjoy them for the price.
